What's the view on these from an LEO perspective? I like the way they're marketed, but ultimately I think they're just a waste of money. I mean, in the situation that a ccw holder had somebody held at gunpoint waiting for a LEO to arrive, would you think anything of the person wearing a badge. It doesn't really prove anything, and anyone with a credit card can order a badge off the internet. I'm sure they sell like crazy though. Thoughts?

Not a LEO, but I don't like those things. Save the real badges for the LEO's

As a LEO in Florida, we actually think they are a joke. I mean, its a worthless piece of metal that means absolutely nothing. Your "Charles Bronson" card is what matters (He's the head of Dept. of Agriculture, the issueing agency for CWP's in florida.)
Ive never had anyone "Badge me" with one, but if I did, Id probably say thats really swell.

Yeah...that's pretty much what I thought. Might as well ,save the money, make one out of tin foil, and write on it with a sharpie. :D

Well, to be specific, the guy who heads the Florida Dept of Ag, the agency that issues Florida CWP's is ACTUALLY named Charles Bronson, its not the actor, but it is the name.

I just recently had a conversation with a friend about this topic and he'll put his life on the line to say that it'll stop him from catching a bullet in his ass.
I told him plain and simple, if you have to discharge your weapon and kill someone my advice would be not to have that weapon in hand when the LEO's show up. If it's in an isolated area clear it and place it somewhere where it's visible and doesn't pose a threat to LE or just holster the damn thing.
He kept arguing that a CCW is the way to go. I figure whatever floats his boats. Can't say I didn't try to properly inform him.

Be on the phone with LEO's so they know who you are if you aren't going to holster. Fuck that I don't want to get shot. I will knock a mother fucker out then call the cops if I have to.

i see these as another way a person can get them selves in trouble not only with a "bad guy " laughing at you , but someone using it to try and convince they are a cop.. It is the same with PI's I don't have a badge nor do I want one but there are those out there with them who feel it may convince others they are more then they are.
Heck MY CCW is buried behind every other ID I carry .. This post just reminded me of years ago when I did security at a community in Boca, this one guy when ever he showed up, he felt the great need to show me his CCW as his ID , as though I cared or was concerned.. what a PUTZ!
I feel the less others know about me out in public the better and having a badge or showing off my CCW doesn't do anything Good IMO..

The badges do have their benefit, as stated though, they can be easily abused.

It was my understanding that it's illegal to flash your CCW.

Cris

It's illegal to flash it to gain control of a confrontation. To just show it to someone is another story. This was a co-worker of his.

it wasnt a coworker, it was this turd who would drive up to come visit someone, instead of his DL he was dig for his CCW .. the would have this look like he wanted me to ask him something.. Maybe because I was armed he felt the need to show he was too by flashing the ccw.. who knows I never asked for anything other then his ID, lol

Badges are for LEO & CEO.

I think they are a bad idea.

Personally, I think it's a bad idea to even have a NRA sticker on your car. IMO you should not have anything to show or give away you are in any way associated with fires arms. All it takes is some prick to get pissed off on the highway because you cut him off, see your NRA sticker, and call the cops and make up a story about how you got mad and waved your gun at him that he assumes you have. I can think of tons more scenarios even worse than that with these people that walk around displaying their carry permit. Yeah, brilliant. Now some fucking tree hugging hippie faggot can go tell a cop he saw you carrying a gun into Wal-mart.

Right. Either way, my point is, if someone decides to be a dick, you're still going to be harassed be a cop, and possibly accused of having a firearms in open view even though you did not. I think it's better just to not let anyone know you have anything.

I don't like showing any form of badge unless necessary. I know alot of LEO's who would fully agree with that and when we get together off duty that's the last thing on anyones mind. Not to say that we wont get involved if needed, but if we don't have to. Then why?
Why have a badge unless you're pretending to be an officer? Great marketing strategy for the guy who made them. He's making a killing, but for common sense people why?
