Ok I am looking for a red dot for my AR-15. My AR-15 is brand new and It’s my first AR-15 as well. Style is flat top M4 16" barrel and with ACE entry stock. It needs some optics bad. I will most likely not be shooting it a whole lot but would like to have a red dot for when I do go shooting or for WSHTF.

I have about $100 to spend, Give or take a little bit.

Has anyone tried the Eotech fakes or aimpoint fakes and if so what was your experiences with them?

Also open to any recommendations.
Thanks.

my buddy has a mueller that he loves...only really tried it once and wasn't bad...I was pointed toward Barska and have since ordered from them but still waiting on it...I heard a lot of different views of the Barska red dot and ended up going with the 4x28 with red laser combo they were selling at 50% off. They are having a big sale right now

Do you have a link?

Barska sights are at: www.barska.com

If I were choosing between the Barska and the Mueller red dot I would go with the Mueller over the Barska.

The Mueller sight is: http://www.muelleroptics.com/

The Mueller seems to have more features etc and seems to have a lot more positive reviews. But then again that is my opinion and like they say opinions are like assholes...everyone has one.

Only reason I would suggest the Mueller is becuase I have used one and they seemed very good and durable and there are a lot of good reviews on them. I just decided that I would rather have some magnification. Plus you can find them for less than $100...normally like $99 shipped maybe u can find a slightly better deal

I have a G&P Eotech knock off. It cost me around $70. I have it on my AK. It holds zero pretty decently. The only issue I have had is it powering down from recoil. I fixed it by elongating the springs that retain the batteries. Basically the batteries were moving during recoil and the site was powering down. All fixed now. At 50 yards I can cut the center out of the target at the range with it. For a cheapo red dot, it works.

Ummm dude, why would you get a Red-Dot that runs on 4 watch batteries? The battery life on that will be shit. Those batteries are like 2-3$ each in the US.

But here, I'll save you some money for the long run. Goto RadioShack and buy their house brand 23A batteries (RadioShack part number RS 23-144). Slice them open, remove the insulation, and inside you'll find a stack of 8 LR44 batteries.

Better to spend 1$ per 23A battery and get 8 LR44's instead of buying LR44's for 2-3$ each. =)

You have way too much time on your hands. Good find though.

It's all that so-called "useless" knowledge in my head that most people find absolutely retarded to know. But it sure is nice to share like in this example, and I don't do that bad watching Jeopardy either. =)

The one I have runs on 2AA batteries. I just posted that link to show what was available. That is not the exact model I have but it is the same manufacturer.

Ah ok, good on you then. I'm thinking of finding one that runs on AAA batteries and has about 5,000 hours of battery life, which should be doable since those that run on AA from middle ground makers can last 10,000 hours. Inside 9-volt batteries are 6 AAAA (Quad-A) batteries which are the same voltage as AAA but slightly thinner. You can wrap them with some paper and they fit right into AAA slots very securely with only 10% less energy.

So instead of 50 cents per AAA I can buy a 9-volt for 1.50 per battery and get 6 cells out of it. Works out to 50% off for 10% less power. Plus it is very easy to carry 9-volts in a pouch for extra power in the field. =)

You are almost like MacGuyver. I am impressed.

Yeah, the real Macguyver could make a machine gun out of a paperclip, a pencil, and a strand of hair. Don't doubt the mighty Jax! But until he does that, he shall be no Macguyver!

The BATFE had once deemed a string device to be a machinegun. It's ingeniously simple as it uses the forward motion of the bolt handle as the lever to pull the string to aid in pressing the trigger. Sort of like bump firing but you can still shoulder the rifle. Maybe if he had several strands of hair woven together to form string and the paper clip to form the ring lock attachment for your finger.....
