We received one of these in the shop the other day. Looks pretty good and not a bad deal for all the goodies that come with this firearm. The damn thing even comes with its own soft carrying case, of course its sporting the Ruger logo. MSRP is $1995 not sure what Guntech is going to sell the for yet. Be sure it will be less than the MSRP. I know this model has been spoken for for a very long time.

The AR Platform Redefined. Continuing in the tradition of innovation and excellence, the new Ruger® SR-556 is a two-stage piston driven AR-style rifle. The chrome-lined gas block and chrome-plated piston and regulator work together to provide a smooth power delivery stroke to the bolt carrier. All of the by-products of the gas system are vented out of the bottom of the gas block and away from the bolt carrier, keeping the action clean and free from contaminants. This patent-pending operating system allows the SR-556 to run cleaner and cooler, thus providing significantly improved reliability over gas driven rifles while making the SR-556 easier to maintain.
Adding to the rugged reliability of the SR-556 is the four-position, chrome-plated gas regulator. The regulator and piston driven system puts the operator in control, allowing the shooter to tune the rifle to specific ammunition conditions, which in turn minimizes recoil and maximizes reliability and long-term endurance. The gas system may be closed completely for manual operation during training or when using a suppressor.

The compact 16-1/8" chrome-lined barrel is cold hammer-forged from Mil-Spec 41V45 steel, providing outstanding accuracy potential and longevity. These barrels are made to exacting tolerances in-house at Ruger, which offers some of the best barrels available anywhere, at any price.

When it comes to high-quality accessories, Ruger didn't cut any corners.

The SR-556 comes standard with Troy Industries Folding BattleSights™ - a $260 value. The windage adjustable rear sight and elevation adjustable front sight co-witness with Mil-Spec optics and can be easily removed to make room for high-power scopes. The sights can be folded down with the push of a button, or quickly flipped up with your thumbs. The robust sights are constructed of aircraft grade aluminum with stainless steel hardware and feature .5 MOA positive click adjustments and instantly convertible short and long range apertures.

The following accessories also come standard with the SR-556:

**Troy Industries Quad Rail Handguard - Made especially for Ruger, this one-piece, ten-inch quad rail handguard is pinned to the upper receiver and provides a rigid mount for the piston driven transfer rod.

** 6-Position Telescoping M4-Style Buttstock - This collapsible stock allows the length of pull to be adjusted from 10.25" to 13.50". It also house a mil-spec buffer and spring and includes a rear sling swivel.

** Hogue® Monogrip® Pistol Grip - Hogue's industry-leading black, rubber grip with finger grooves provides comfort when carrying and shooting.

** Three MAGPUL PMAG™ 30-Round Magazines - PMAG magazines feature a pop-off storage/dust cover that allows for long-term storage, and utilizes a stainless steel spring for corrosion resistance, and an anti-tilt, self-lubricating follower.

** Three Troy Industries Rail Covers - Rail covers provide a comfortable, ergonomic hold on the unused portions of the handguard's Picatinny rails.

That is not a bad weapon and the price tag seems to fit well.

Not bad considering all on it, plus it has a piston system. So a very good deal.

Yeah, it comes with a lot of gear and half way tricked out. Can't go wrong with this buy! I may have found my new rifle here!

Heh, I figured you would like this one Anthony.

This does come with a single stage trigger, so that would have to be updated for sure.

I did get to see one that came thru for a transfer a couple/few weeks ago. I liked some of the aspects of it but I'd still get rid of the grip, stock, and the Mini-14ish FH.

It's interesting to see that this system is very much like an Adams Arms kit, yet, I did not have enough time to see how the gas block/piston assembly mates with the quad rail. My initial glance looked like it was made to blend in seemlessly with the rail but I don't know if the rail is truly a free float or if it is somehow attached to the block. Then again, you sort of lose the free float "benefit" by throwing on a piston on top of a barrel which has to affect the barrel's harmonics.

SS1, the grip and the handguard I with you on changing, but what's the Mini-14ish FH?
Mini-14 Flash Hider? I haven't played with many of those so I'm a bit lost.

Yeah the grip definitely sucked. Yes, Flash Hider.

It is the same design as the ones for the mini-14. If the thread count is the same, then I'd assume it is the same FH. Since I haven't seen any mini-14 with AR FH's, it tells me that the threading is different and hopefully they didn't change the thread on the SR-556's barrel to an out of spec thread just to put on their proprietary FH.

Would it really surprise you though? Big names usually do eventually go proprietary because they can keep their own costs low and protect their profit margins.

Actually Colt is now making their AR's with the standard small pins to keep their costs down and options open to more upgradeable triggers. A USGI birdcage FH has to be infinitely cheaper than their Ruger FH. Plus all those suppressor owners who refuse to use thread converters for their QD mounts won't buy this rifle if the thread wasn't the standard 1/2" x 28. I would be really disappointed if it wasn't.
