yes i am in a condo but really should not matter... if you are not on a ground floor...may need to look into how much weight the floor can handle

CE Safes in Pompano is a good place to start. They have the expertise to tell you what would probably work for you in the budget you have. What ever you do, don't waste your money on those cheap sheet metal Homak gun cabinets. Bass Pro doesn't deliver but they usually recommend Banks to do the move to your location. Some cheap alternatives are Harbor Freight, Costco, and Lowes and Home Depot, but you really do get what you pay for in the world of safes.

SERVICES

C.E. Safes delivers safes. We offer full service delivery within most areas of Florida. We will transport your safe from our warehouses in Pompano Beach and Fort Myers. Basic inside delivery is ground floor, but we also provide stair climb services for upper floor deliveries.

C.E. Safes installs safes. We anchor your safe upon request, by bolting to floor, wall, shelf, or concrete pedestal. A concrete pedestal for the base of your safe can be provided for a secure anchoring surface in apartments or condos where bolting to floor is not allowed. The pedestal also raises the safe off the floor from water or flood and elevates the safe over closet kick plates.

C.E. Safes relocates and moves safes. We can provide removal, packaging, transport, and redelivery of your safe when you move.

cool....now that I'll have my own place I'll be in the market for a safe...wanted to put it into my closet in my Master but I think my wife would prefer it goes in the garage.

Cris

Better in the bedroom. I have heard nothing but good about C&E Safes.

anthony20031

yh but unfortunately my wife will make that call lol...Ive been thinking though. In my garage are some cabinets that run from floor to ceiling. I wonder if I could have the safe installed inside those cabinets and bolted down. Then you can just close the cabinets doors and noone can see it. Then just open the cabinets and you can access the safe.

Bad idea, good idea?

Cris

It would definitely be discreet. If you do that make sure you definitely have a dehumidifier in the safe.

Actually I just realized I can satisfy my wife and not get stuck putting the safe in the garage. Just remembered we have a nice pantry/laundry room right off the garage and kitchen. It is plenty large enough and even has a built in cabinet that runs from the floor to ceiling there as well. That should work reall well.

I've been considering grabbing a double stack gym locker for an apartment install. I can remove the floor between the upper and lower lockers, install different shelves, reinforce the floor, and strengthen the locking areas. Though I would prefer to do the same with a storage cabinet that is about 50-60" high, but all I can find is 40" or 72" and nothing in between. =(

The problem with sheet metal gauge cabinets is that all they need to do is yank it to the ground and stomp on it until it fails. Witnessed it with my neighbor's Homak gun cabinet when they broke into his house and stole his guns. Not that a crowbar couldn't make quick work of it, it was eyeopening that they can be compromised with no tools. No safe is 100% impenetrable for professionals, but at least you can buy some time with a heavy solid one.

What about discretion? Neighbor is a former dealer, and lord knows I don't want to give him or his people any ideas as to what the hell is going on in my Apt.

Chris
09-08-2009, 06:51 PM
if you purchase a safe from a dealer let him know that descretion is an issue they will accomadate you, they can leave the safe boxed and it looks like an appliance. When I lived in an Apartment the parked well away from the building and walked it over, alot more work for them. They will accomadate you just be prepared to tip for their efforts

NUB- official definition: a internet acronym, similar to "noob". HOWEVER, whilst a NOOB is someone who is lame/idiotic because he is new, a NUB is someone who has had the opportunity to learn something new, but never did, and is therefore idiotic/stupid.

Not to drag up an old thread but SecPro did you ever make it to CE? I'm kinda in the market for a safe now and was curious. I don't want to spend too much but want something decent that will stop a snatch and grab (unlike some tiny sheet metal locker). Hoping discretion along with say a 12 gauge safe will be enough. Figure a Canon or something else should repel a theif unless he's got some tools like grinder etc and that's if they can find it lol. Trying to stay under say 600 or 700 tops

my cannon patriot was 1098.00 installed and delivered

anthony20031
12-29-2009, 10:45 PM
Yh I was hoping to keep it under that. The cheaper the better lol...least for the near future. My main concern is to stop people from quickly breaking into the safe and running of with the contents. I mean given time any person can break into a safe but I live a very residential neighborhood and I doubt thiefs would have the time to take loud power tools to my safe and have the time to open the safe before police would respond to the break in...have an alarm.

So my main concern is to just stop a smash and grab and some fire rating.

If I had known others were still looking for safes, I would've posted up the Cannon safe deal from Costco this month (1200$ retail safe for 550$). Costco still has another Cannon model up for grabs for 800$ bucks that is usually 1300$.

Cris

Quit your bitching... I mentioned the 267$ Liberty Safe deal and nobody said a peep about it. But even that deal is over now as it's back up to 397$.

anthony20031
12-30-2009, 09:23 AM
Is that a decent safe...the Liberty? Wish I knew about the Cannon lol. I have also been throwing around one other idea and am not sure the costs though. I have a pretty large garage and was considering turning one corner into a type of safe room/safe. I would just need to poor concrete for 2 walls with rebar (potentially also a ceiling) and then get a safe door installed. Then I think I could just over time fire proof the inside, drywall or whatever I want, build shelves etc. There would already be an outlet inside as there is an outlet on the outside wall of the garage that would be within the safe for a dehumidifier etc. Would also be cool to then build something around the outside of the concrete and then put a normal wooden door in front of the safe door so as to make it look like a normal storage space inside the garage as a cover for nosy neighbors etc when the garage door is opened

Anyone know what the costs of a project like that would be?

JaxChris
12-30-2009, 01:19 PM
The Liberty is no where near as good as the Cannon (obviously). It is intermediate at best for protection since it does not have a fire/water rating. And safes like the Liberty need to be bolted down with their backside against a wall because if you get any safe that isn't top-end on its' back you can crack them open pretty easily.

Anything with locking bars of less than 2" diameter can usually be sheered with enough mechanical advantage.

anthony20031
12-30-2009, 01:23 PM
Most likely it will be in my closet (if it's not too large) and will be bolted down to a terrazzo floor.

Any comments or suggestions on the garage idea lol :)...think it would work, just not sure about costs to use rebar and pour the concrete and then get a door to be installed

JaxChris
12-30-2009, 06:53 PM
The fake cabinet to hide a safe in the garage wouldn't be a bad idea... but you'll need to run power into the safe and install an always-on dehumidifier to protect your valuables, especially if you'll have ammo in there.

anthony20031
12-30-2009, 10:21 PM
:( wife nixed the idea of building a room sized safe in the garage...said since this isn't our ultimate dream house and plan on selling it we should wait til we get for our next house that may be a little bigger etc lol

JaxChris
12-31-2009, 03:10 AM
Sounds like a wise woman. If you're not going to live there for 20 years, why make a bunch of mods?

Go dirt cheap then. Get some high school lockers & padlocks to store your gear in and you can put a particle board shell around it with an additional padlock outside of that (buy a set of same key locks?). It will be concealed on the cheap and you can put a dehumidifier in there to help keep things fresh.

anthony20031
12-31-2009, 09:57 AM
Well she said since it will be slightly smaller then I can put like one of the smaller Cannons or something in the closet. Just need to double check size to make sure it would fit
