View Full Version : Sig 226 vs Springfield XDM

As of late, i have been trying to figure out which is better bang for the buck. So far, as much as i love sigs....and believe me...i love em....i am leaning towards the XDM 9mm. 19+1 vs 15+1 is a substantial difference in firepower.

The purpose of the pistol would be my go-to pistol.

Thoughts and opinions?

Sig makes 226 9mm mags that holds 18 with a normal floor plate. They are expensive at sixty somethingish but definitely high quality and very reliable. I have 4 of them plus a sig 15 rounder. That said, the XDM kit is certainly a high value to the buck set and much more affordable than the Sig.

I don't think I really need to comment on this to know what I would get.

how much is the XDM in 9mm going for at guntech?

BTW, Joe, Omi (MiamiTJ) was selling a 226 w/ rail for $450. Get that plus 3 high cap mags and you are all set.

I dont' recall. Cris probably knows. I did see at least 4 XDM cases in the back, but I don't know if any are 9mm.

ETA: BTW, You'll have to wait until tomorrow as they are closed today because they are hungover from celebrating the UM win last night. Go Gators!

I know! i sent him a pm saying ill take it....but he said there's a deal in the works or something. He said he would let me know. I wish i knew about it before he put it up for sale. It's gone. Sucks....

I like the XDM....but the sig just calls me...lol...i want both

Well I have the XDm 9mm, and I love it. The replaceable back straps are great. I use the large one. It seems to be very accurate, but I am not an expert. Extremely easy to clean. Doesn't even need a trigger pull to field strip it.

I'm not making a strong case here lol, but really it's an awesome gun. Best ergonomic I've experienced.

XDM 9mm all blued, was $585 I think it went up $5 though bringing ya up to $590. The bi-tones are obviously more, but only weirdos want bi-tones.

I love XD as a whole but the XDM seems a bit of a long shot in the 9mm. What the hell am I really going to do with all of those rds? Maybe it's just me, but the arguement has been posed many times as far as ammo; caliber; proper aim etc. The Sig is a bit pricey, but is definately worth the money as for reliability we already know both Sig & XD are very reliable weapons as a whole.
Does the Sig offer replaceable backstraps and all the cool functions as the XD?

Not that I have seen. Springfield's warranty service is top notch for sure. One of the easiest processes I have ever dealt with.

None of the Sigs do. The Sig 226 is a traditional alloy frame, so you are not going to see that option. You grip the gun and if you don't like it, you find aftermarket grip panels such as the Hogue or Pachmayer grips, etc.

The Sig 250 has interchangeable frames, so that's Sig's take on approaching customized grips. Personally, I hate the 250 due to its double action only trigger group and the look and feel of the polymer frame.

My next pistol will be either a Sig P229R .40 or a P220 .45. I love Sigs and it will be my next pistol purchase.

I just don't see spending that kind of money on a sidearm unless it be an HK or something of that caliber. Sig is great, but I don't think it warrents the price tag.

And for the price of HK's and 1911's, I'd rather have a Five-Seven, but that's here nor there. I say go with the XD or XDm and remove the Sig from the decision. You'll love polymer after you spend some time at the range with one.

:+1: For sure! the 5.7 is way better once you break down price and such. Can't go wrong with the XD! Once you get some trigger time with it you'll be hooked. Just ask Cris! I think most of us have XDs! Just as reliable as glock, just not as ugly or bulky.

You know, it's funny... When you take a gun apart and study it, you have a different appreciation of it. Honestly, the HK's are good pistols, but it's guts are pretty much all plastic and stamped steel. Not saying that it is cheaply made, but not what I would expect for such an expensive line of guns.

You're right as far as the HK is concerned! The guts of an FN though looks pretty good!

Damn those P30's and HK45's for being so damn nice though.

ss1

You can rent a P30 at 'zona, but you got to buy their ammo. I was about to until the ammo requirement surfaced. Probably a good thing, as I would have to buy one if it shoots as nice as I think it should.

Why do you have to buy there ammo? Is it suppose to be cleaner or something?

The two obvious answers are:

To make sure people don't shoot cheap reloads in them and
To make more money

I didn't feel like spending $20something for a box of 9mm at the time.

Wow! Well the money part I understand. I thought it was a cleaning thing though. Good thing I don't rent guns then.
Even though I'd love to shoot a 5.7

funny thing is... i already do have most of the mentioned guns.

I do have a 5-7. So i dont know if i should just stick with that as my "full sized sidearm". I do have 1911's...quite a few at that. Why am i thinking about a sig 226 or XDM? Well, i don't have a good answer. I thought i had a valid reason to want to buy either, but the more i read your responses, it seems i already own a few of the choices. I guess i just want em' lol.

I guess the decision between the sig and the xdm is to find a full size handgun in a traditional caliber. I love the way the p30 feels, but for the purpose i'm looking for, the 226 and the xdm is where it's at. If i cant find a deal on a 226. I think i will be a proud owner of an XDM soon.

Joe, the only excuse you need is to spend money on another gun. You are all set brother.

Let's see, if you have more good defense guns than you can possibly shoot at one time, you are good to go and on your way to making that "virtual gun room" in the Matrix. "Guns, lot's of guns......."

Sounds perfect for SecPro, he should do all his shooting over there.

Hey, I do clean my guns. I don't shoot them often enough to warrant me cleaning them all the time like I used to sir! They get cleaned once every few months unless shot.

JaxChris

From Cris' report of your weapons it sounds like you don't even strip them down after a range trip, let alone clean them once every couple months even if not used. Maybe you leave your weapons too wet when you clean them that makes them cake on more gunk then they should.

A weapon should have a slight sheen in key areas once clean. It shouldn't look glossy or wet.

I wont deny that part because it could be a possibility.
As for Cris's report, I would disagree wholeheartedly! I don't believe he's any of my guns that dirty. My AR last he saw was a bit dry and had some filth on it though.

The rust part wasn't really my fault it was in my trunk for so damn long. I got one of those moisture things in there now though.
