In Great Britain, handguns are outlawed, and possession of long guns is severely restricted. Yet, despite strict gun-control, as of 1995, rates for robbery, assault, burglary, and motor vehicle theft in England and Wales had surpassed those here in the States. On average, for all 4 crimes, English rates were double U.S. rates.

So, are their criminals wielding guns or just things like baseball bats and the like? Do they have a firearm black market. Or is the country so isolated that people can't possibly get them into the country without notice? Enquiring minds wanna know!

You don't need a gun to commit a crime. Pipes, knives and chains do just as much damage

there are still signifacant fire arm crimes in England, as easily guessed, criminals dont turn in their guns when there are lawful bans.
Though firearm crime was somewhat reduced, strong arm type felonies as well as other weapon related crimes sky rocketed.

In the english governments odd wisdom they are also proposing a knife ban.

eventually it will be illegal to be in possesion of a rock or stick.
