I just picked up my first AR-15 from a guy for 750. Its got a Stag Arms Model 2 Upper and a Rock River Arms LAR-15 lower, both never fired. Only some minor marks on the buffer tube. Just wanted to know if you guys thought this was a good deal.

Thanks for the input. The first thing i need to do is get a free float handguard. Any suggestions? ALSO I tried uploading pics but can't figure it out.

There is another question as well. What about going with a low profile gas block and getting a longer handguard.

Thanks for the welcome Chris. I was reading through the other threads here and everyone seems to have a wealth of knowledge. I figured it would be a good place to ask questions.

Ok another big question. OPTICS. I'm in the Marine Corps now, Infantry, and we use the Acog. I love the optic but I don't have the cash to throw down on that. I was thinking of maybe a red dot but I've never used one. What is your take on them?

aimpoint or eotech are your best options... there are many cheaper ones out there but you will be happiest with those 2

Congrats on contracting BRD... it's a fun infection to have. Just remember you want "commercial" butt stocks, not "mil-spec". Everything else will work for your weapon. =)

congrats on the purchase. I have a RRA AR as well. I went with the Troy 7" and couldn't be happier. From the sounds of it though you would want the 10" or so.

COPS!? those leeches should pay double!!!!!!!! HA HA!!!!
If you want to do the install of the FF rail yourself, the process is easy as long as you have some important tools, some specific to AR's with certain FF rails and some mechanical commonsense. Stag uppers IIRC, may have tapered pins on the front sight base (FSB) inserted in the opposite direction from the norm if you want to go with the low profile gas block option. A solid work bench, vice, and action block to hold your rifle is a basic must for easy servicing of your new rifle. Sounds like a good deal. Just make sure you go over all the parts to make sure it was put together soundly.
