A mishandled gun and an inadvertent shot led to a woman's death Monday afternoon at a Jacksonville Internet cafe.
Lt. Larry Schmitt of the Sheriff's Office said the unidentified victim, a woman in her early 40s, was at the business in the 5800 block of Normandy Boulevard with several other customers about 3:30 p.m. when she was shot.
He said the bullet came from a gun that belonged to another patron — a man who the woman didn't know.
It's unclear what caused the gun to fire, but he said the man who mishandled the firearm had a concealed weapons license.
The gun owner's name wasn't provided because Schmitt said he hadn't been arrested.
The victim was taken to Shands Jacksonville where she was pronounced dead.
Ché Etheridge said he was at the business playing guitar when he heard a noise like a balloon popping.
"All these people started running out," he said. " I heard the shot over the guitar, and I heard some guy yelling to call an ambulance."
The Internet cafe is one of seven area affiliates of Allied Veterans of the World. The business is a nonprofit organization that formed in 1979 and has 36 facilities in Florida, according to its Web site.
