Police Say Gun Fell From Man's Belt, Discharged

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Jacksonville police said a woman has been killed by the accidental discharge of a concealed firearm on the Westside.

Police said a man with a concealed weapons permit went into the Allied Veterans Cyber Center Internet café in the 5800 block of Normandy Boulevard just east of Lane Avenue.

Police said the man's gun fell from the man's belt and discharged, striking a woman in the back.

Officers said the woman, who was in her 40s, died at Shands.

A mishandled gun and an inadvertent shot led to a woman's death Monday afternoon at a Jacksonville Internet cafe.

Lt. Larry Schmitt of the Sheriff's Office said the unidentified victim, a woman in her early 40s, was at the business in the 5800 block of Normandy Boulevard with several other customers about 3:30 p.m. when she was shot.

He said the bullet came from a gun that belonged to another patron — a man who the woman didn't know.

It's unclear what caused the gun to fire, but he said the man who mishandled the firearm had a concealed weapons license.

The gun owner's name wasn't provided because Schmitt said he hadn't been arrested.

The victim was taken to Shands Jacksonville where she was pronounced dead.

Ché Etheridge said he was at the business playing guitar when he heard a noise like a balloon popping.

"All these people started running out," he said. " I heard the shot over the guitar, and I heard some guy yelling to call an ambulance."

The Internet cafe is one of seven area affiliates of Allied Veterans of the World. The business is a nonprofit organization that formed in 1979 and has 36 facilities in Florida, according to its Web site.

How the hell did it fire from falling? Must have had a light trigger mod or the safeties removed.

Quite unfortunate... damn Glocks! lolHey it doesn't say anywhere that it was a glock! A glock should be just as safe, if not safer than an XD, in the way that it functions.

Another reason I opted for my SR9. Has a manual safety like a 1911. Keep one in the chamber with the safety on. If it drops nothing happens. As I draw I can flick the safety with my thumb.

Glocks dont misfire =)

:+1: Yup. Just ask Billy here on the forum. A tumble at over 100 and no AD.

The 3 internal safety features in a Glock makes it impossible for an AD without something depressing the trigger. It is simple mechnical physics.

Yup! There's a piece of metal or something that actually blocks the firing pin. I think the only way it would go off is by some freak accident of the bullet igniting itself!

accidental discharge death is not really funny.

the word mishandeled leaves a little to much to the imagination.

lastly, id be willing to bet a slick 100 that it wasnt a glock

Yeah, the thing that's not funny, besides the fact that some woman is dead, is that now all the anti-gun faggot hippies (AKA delusional morons with no sense of or grip on reality) have one more thing to add to there stupid "see guns are bad" list.

Fags.
