Will definitely require a gunsmith to fit the EFK barrel to your breachface. The PistolGears are reported to need the least amount of smithing to fit - hence the "semi drop-in" title.

As for running a conversion barrel, you can get a 357Sig barrel or 9mm barrel for your XD40 and run just fine. The only difference in the mags is the count holes and the follower. But since you have the 40, which is the largest, you could run your 40 mags with the 357 and 9mm if you didn't want to buy other mags.

I spoke to someone at the show.. says they are plug and play.. direct drop in with the conversion barrel... I might have one with 2 mags for $100.00 shipped to me...:bolt:

If you move a conversion barrel from one gun to another it will require refitting. The exact alignment between the barrel and breachface is unique from pistol to pistol unless a weapon is precisely made.

The XD's are well made, but they're not absolute precision (yes, I love XD but I'm a realist). Each barrel, during firearm assembly, is matched to the breachface before they Melonite them. So if you grab a barrel from a different XD of the same caliber you will have a noticeable shift in the POA/POI that will be increasingly visible at greater distance.

I would still have the pistol boresighted with the the conversion in there and compared to the factory barrel. If you see a shift on paper, you should have it mated by a gunsmith. This is why conversion barrels only come in stainless, because you would strip the Melonite layer when mating (and Melonite is much harder to shave).

so I got home last night.. took apart the XD and slipped in the conversion barrel.. it went in with out any issues.. worked the slide back and forth.. all seems good.

you have now placed a shadow of a doubt in my mind as to the poi with the new barrel. ill laser bore site it and see.. maybe Gentle Ben can take a look at it for me when I take him some deer meat.. :)

for now here are some pics of the deal..

now you want to convert your 40 to a 9mm?

didn't you just sell your 9 for the 40?
