Just thought I would start a new thread for this.

Looking for an alarm system that I can expand as I go and can install myself. This is what I want in an alarm:

1) When alarm sounds it sends a message to my cell alerting me (good if not home)
2) Has to be wireless with a backup battery of sorts in case power is cut
3) The ability to add cameras that can be monitored via any computer (web base)
4) Remote to disarm or arm the system. This would allow just one base pad by the front door so it can't be armed via the remote in any room of the house (useful if in the bedroom and going to sleep, don't need to get up)
5) A system where multiple motion sensors (I do have dogs but may not be a factor as they may be kept in an area away from the sensors), door/window monitors can be set up that report back to that main keypad if there is a breach and/or movement. Should also allow for multiple sirens. Also seen sensors that are placed outside can trip lights inside the house (would be cool but not a complete necessity)

Having it report to someone that would call me is not a major requirement but would be a plus if the system allows. However I would prefer a system that I can set up and monitor myself at first until I feel comfortable with it and that it won't be calling the police constantly becuase of false alarms.

Just a side note. After doing research I will probably have the cameras on a seperate system rather than integrated with the alarm.

I wish I could help ya on this one Anthony but I really can't. Possibly if you know any LE ask them what they have known to be reliable?

Yeah, same here. Our house was prewired with Guardian (now Devcon). They make you sign a contract in 3 year increments with auto-renew language if you don't cancel in a small window of time. While service was always good with them, they did try to rake me over the coals when I had hurricane impact windows installed. They wanted $175 per window or $300 for sliding doors for the reinstallation of the magnets and reeds. I said BS as that was going to cost almost $2,500 and went online and found a site that sold alarm components, bought a couple of bulk packs, a spool of low voltage wire at Home Depot and installed them in a few hours. I was fortunate that the window guys had tried to save as much of the original wiring as possible when they ripped out the old frames.

that site includes monitoring. For now I don't want it to be monitored and want to install it myself...I have yet to find a local store that sells alarm systems and I found that other website that I posted earlier. Would love to find a local store so that I could play with the different models and actually see them in person

so .... i have been testing my alarm lately.. it now takes less than 1 minute for central station to call and verify the situation.. I have set up a couple passwords (one being no trouble and one meaning send police) ...

still taking around 20 mins to get the cops to my house though.. you only get 3 false alarms and then they start charging..

that's why I was going to hold off on having police/outside company to monitor my alarm. Want to get familiar with it first and then perhaps down the road get it monitored. We'll see. Need to get a system in place first

when i started my account, they told me i have a 5 day grace period where emergency services would not be sent to the home.

this was a trial period for you to get used to the system.
