View Full Version : Ciener .22lr Conversion Kit on RRA Entry Tactical
Just wanted to contribute my recent experience with the Ciener .22 kit I ran in my RRA Entry Tactical. Dropped the unit in and ran over 300 rounds through it ( Federal 550 ) without issue and was very happy with the results. My only regret was that I only had the 10 round mag that came with the bolt kit. Ran a handful of 5.56 through as advised afterwards. Black
Dog mags are on my list of nexts.

i am seriously thiking about the sig 522
That definitely sucks having a 10 round mag in that set up. Good to know it ran flawlessly though. Why do they recommend the 5.56 afterwords?
SS1, did you ever confirm that the Sig would take the Black Dog mags?

There are a few different schools of thought on this but they say it helps prevent fouling in the gas system. Some say every 2-300 rounds some say 400-1000 and some say they don't bother. I'd throw a few in there anyway just to verify operation and to maintain familiarity with the round.
Spikes,
I've seen the Sig at the shows. They are nice looking. I was leaning toward a .22 rifle but being it was my first Black rifle and I could only swing one I went with the RR and made it multi-purpose with the kit. Who knows what the future may bring. They sure are fun to plink with, practice with - and cost effective.
That's a big negative for me then. I would rather have a dedicated upper then.

lol, you never sent me the pics, but it looks like the standard Black Dog .22 mags are the same ones used in the Sig 522. The Olympic Arms dedicated upper conversion kit that we have in the shop uses a special Black Dog mag called the M261.

Shit, I totally forgot about the pics. I updated my laptop to Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit over the weekend. Plus I was working on Secpro's mothers PC also, since he downloaded too much gay porn to it. I have my camera with me today. You want me to e-mail the pics to the same address?

FYI...I will be the proud owner of a 10/22 next week :)
I believe my 10/22 is finally ready to go, thanks to SS1.

Well I just need to find it lol. The wife said she will purchase it next week though once I find it :)

I looked at those as well but on a budget couldn't swing a second upper. I did a fair amount of research about the units before buying and am not really that concerned about any issues. Reading through the threads there are folks that have shot thousands and thousands of rounds through the conversion units without any adverse effects on the rifle. Just take care of the rifle and clean it well. The other way to look at it is .. by the time anything could happen maybe I'll already have that second upper or whole unit :)
i have one of the conversion units that replaces the bolt too, i get some fte's once in a while, its nice to be able to shoot and cheap with the ar but i think the dedicated .22's are a better way to go...
I personally would only go with a dedicated upper. The twist rates for most common AR barrels are way too fast for .22 LR. Not only is that a problem for accuracy but also it tends to leave large amounts of lead fouling in the grooves. But if you plink and clean it thoroughly, you should be fine.
I watched a guy a Pembroke the other week get FTE's non-stop with one of these kits. I would say every few rounds he was clearing it and reloading the mag.

I actually expected some issues but it was all good and I'm hoping it stays that way.

Sorry, I should have clarified, I don't know what kit it was, but it was a conversion kit. I couldn't believe how many times he had to clear that damn thing.
Let me say he had to clear the thing so many times he looked like a seasoned professional doing it.
I would be looking for a refund or exchange on that product.
I was thinking the same thing. It would have been sent back to the manufacturer right away.
maybe it was bad ammo...
I just ran Federal 550 bulk through my unit with 0 issues so thats all I can speak to at this point.

Thanks for the link... I already ordered some from Ambient Outdoors. They were 17.5 ea. Can't sit long with that 10 rounder, reliable as it was.

And from what I've read, the 10 round mags are far more reliable. Most feeding problems with conversions are the high capacity mags.
I'll post my results after I get a chance to run them.
Just wanted to post it up. On the Markham trip over the weekend the new Black Dog magazines ran perfectly with about 300 rounds through them loaded to capacity. They looked good as well. Hopefully the trend will continue.
