being new to everyday carry, i have a ton of questions about holsters, position, cant, etc.

good news is i've already started carrying around the house. i'm experimenting with body position and i'm using a iwb (desantis) leather holster. this is just temporary and i admit that it's a little thick, but it will have to do till i figure out what works best.

what are your experiences with holsters?

i automatically thought i wanted an iwb holser (crossbreed) for the best concealment, however, a co worker got me thinking twice about that. he actually recommends a kydex holster with a belt loop.

why?
1. i wouldn't have to buy a new wardrobe
2. much easier to draw from
3. more comfortable than any iwb holster
4. can actually sit with it on in a car

i'm still not sold either way.
i would love to hear your experiences and/ or opinions.

thanks!

a crossbreed you can sit in the car..as i wear my glock 23 all day... kydex is not easier to draw from and in my experiance... wears the finish on the gun much quicker then the crossbreed...as well as outside the waistband is never a good idea as someone will always see

i'm really getting used to this desantis IWB and i'm liking it more and more. but it's definitely too bulky, because it has the option for the belt loop on the other side of the clip.

i can't wait till try to the crossbreed.

Your co-worker is a fool. Outside the pant it prints much easier. Unless you are going to buy much bigger shirts to cover the gun. Crossbreed FTW!!! Yes you can sit with it. I actually lay right on it and fall asleep on the couch, ask your coworker if his kydex can do that?

I have a crossbreed, and there's no way I'm changing mine at all. Comfortable all day long and I carry a Sig P220 Carry. I still need to find a nice one for my Sig P238, as I'm still not to keen on the pocket holster.

when i asked my coworker about printing, he said it does but he didn't care.
right there i knew i was in trouble with his recommendation.

but it doesn't hurt to do some homework.

What are you carrying? If it's the G30 I can let you borrow my Crossbreed to see if you like it. I don't carry it as often as I used to now that I got the XD40SC.

Oh, so he is one of those idiots. He is one of the guys that probably intentionally prints to feel like a tough guy.

i've known the guy for a while now and he is a little crazy like that. like i said, it doesn't hurt to get different opinions.

i don't want to draw any attention to myself and i diffidently want something that's easy and comfortable to carry.

Ive been real sick for the past week.. Ill be around soon enough..

Did anyone mention to ChrisMia that carrying means getting pants 1 waist size larger and loosening your belt one notch? Makes a world of difference to the comfort of carrying.

Of course, this really only applies to regular width guns and doesn't apply to flat pistols that you can already pocket carry.

If you notice, some of us joke about our clothes not fitting when we don't carry - that's because if we don't carry there's a void in our waist line.

Go grab a pair of carpenter jeans from Walmart that are just 1 waist size larger than your normal purchase. Then try your IWB holster setup with those pants and notice the instant comfort.

I really think this is the biggest thing between people that have a great first carry experience and those that find it uncomfortable - because some people already have a little room in their jeans without feeling they are stretching their pants around their pistol.

In women terms: You've gained a couple pounds and it went straight to your waist. If you don't get more appropriate clothes those pounds are going to show like a muffintop.

i am waiting to try and Crossbreed or the desantis version, but my everyday IWB is a Don hume i have used for about 10 years now, i wear mostly fishing style shirts which here is south florida fit in everywhere or loose t shirts, i do have owb holsters for the range and can be used with this style shirt if I choose. I wear my holsters just behind my hip which allows me draw easy yet it is still very concealed. just my input , hope it helps..

quick update...

been carrying for almost 2 weeks now and having the S&W 4053 on my hip is fine. it's a bit on the heavy side, but i can deal.

what i can't deal with, is carrying the gun in my holster while i'm driving. i wear it at the 4 - 4:30 position and i'm stuill using the galco IWB holster. i plan on ordering the crossbreed very soon (just waiting on lino's sorry ass).

i have to place my gun in the glove box while i drive and holster it before leaving the car. this part really sucks.

Matt (Satan3pc) may want to grab that from you if it fits Glock27 (don't see why it wouldn't). Throw him a PM or email to let him know.
