Alright so with left over money from the holidays and hopefully a job in the near future, as well as my birthday coming up, I am really considering building an AR-15.Well sort of, i was thinking about doing the Del-ton rifle kit because i have heard that although not top of the line, Which i am NOT looking for...yet, they are a decent rifle when all is said and done. So my question is with the amazing amount of stripped lowers available , a bit overwhelming i must say, what is a good stripped lower to pick up locally.

where are you located? Just call spikes , they are having a sale right now about $85 for a stripped lower plus shipping and your transfer where ever you send it too.

Depending on the version, they procure their lowers from a couple of different forges. My personal preference was their plain lower finished in a black teflon like finish.

There is 7 companies that manufacture lowers for Spike's currently. You can identify which manufacturer by the letters in the serial number.

Without a doubt, my favorite is the SAR series made by Aero Precision. It has a Type-III military hardcoat, which is probably the teflon that C3PO is referring to. It is truly black and has a great feel.

Currently they are 89$, and if you wait until the next gun show that they attend down there you can get it for 90$ out the door (tax and transfer included on the spot, no wait period on stripped lowers in South Florida).

They will either be at the Southern Classic show in Miami on Jan 16/17th or the Suncoast show in Ft Lauderdale on Jan 23/24th. Give Spike's a call (407.928.2666) and ask them which one. My money is on the Ft Lauderdale show because they'll probably be at the Lakeland show on Jan 16/17th since gun show season is just beginning again.

If you run into AJ at the show, tell him JaxChris sent you and that I said hi. =)

so no waiting period on Stripped lowers even without a cwp and i can walk with it out the door or will it still need to be transfered to FFL? i might have to make it out to the next show then. Thanks for the help very valuable information

No CWP, you have to wait. The lower is the part with the serial on it.

In South Florida, we have to wait the 5 days for both hand guns and long guns. I can take a 2 hour drive to Ft. Myers and buy a rifle with no wait period  if I didn't have a CWP. Stripped lowers may fall under the no wait category in other parts of FL, but the PB, Broward, Dade and Monroe counties are freaking antigun. Not sure if the Treasure Coast Counties: Martin, St. Lucie, and Indian River counties follows SF rules.

What's confusing is that I believe Dade County is the only one with the 5 day long gun rule, but Broward and PB have voluntarily elected to mandate FFL's to follow Dade rules. I wish I could find more definitive info on it.

Too many communist immigrants in South Florida. They only adopt those rules down there because the snowbirds can't own guns very easily back home and would rather everyone be disarmed.

Central Florida is on the spot transfers on rifles/lowers & 3 business days for handguns if you don't have a CWP.

i see so maybe i need to move to central florida or maybe just take the 2 hour drive to St.Lucie and pick up my long rifles from now on. 4 hours of driving is definitely better then 5 days of waiting. At least i think so

Make it a nice day trip and it's always worth while. I drive 2 hours to Spike's to get my stuff directly, or I call AJ and he throws it in the van if there is a show near me that I can pick it up from.

Why not drive to Spike's and pick one out for yourself? For the cost in shipping and transfer you can just about wash.
