Here's what the 4th Gen Glock's look like. The RTF of the 3rd Gen's has been phased out in favor of a soft touch finish (almost rubber like) to the frame with some dotted texture along the sides of the pistol grip.

I think a lot of people will be looking to some serious long term range reviews on these before they decide whether they are practical for EDC duty. So far the impression on first touch is "ooh, that's nice". But that means nothing when your hand and the weapon is dry and there is no draw motions being made.

I also heard they were going with a interchangeble back strap much like the M&P

They're not really interchangeable. As you see in the first picture I posted, there are no lines to show anything is removable. What happens is there are 3 clip-on attachment points (upper sides and bottom rear) where you have 1 of 2 clip-on "grip enhancers".

Hmm. I heard there's removable backstraps on it as well and that it was still hard thermoplastic. :idunno:

Yeah well I'm not so sure about this "brand new look" at 4th gen glocks. I am positive I saw a glock with that same texturing on the grip about a year ago. The guy at the gun store told me the same thing. "Oh, this is what the new glocks are going to look like." Seems to me it is just an option that some models can have. Nothing else looks different to me.

EDIT: In fact, upon a little bit of google searching, it appears that this is a common misconception and that is just a "RTF" model glock.

The RTF2 was a great grip until you tried to carry it.

So I've heard. Right along with the sand paper shit. I like what hickok45 did on youtube. He just put a couple little strips. It's enough to grip, but not really enough to get in the way.

Skateboard grip tape is the best to use from what I've read around the "interwebs of misinformation and drama".

It appears there may be some truth to the original post on this thread, but there's many many differing pictures. It's almost as if people have been snapping pictures of "beta" version the Glock reps are demoing to get peoples opinions.

I heard they are add on straps also, not removable. And as you said here... If you look closely at some of the guns in the back ground of the picture that Jax posted, there appears to be a hole in the tops of the grip. Perhaps they are back straps that go on the outside. But aren't Glocks known for having thick chunky grips? Are they going to make the factory profile smaller than before and give you the option of making it medium(the width of the old glocks) or larger?

Hmm....

We got to examine one at the shop and yes, the backstraps are just add on's to the stock grip. I guess the giant ham fisted peeps are going to be happy. Overall, I think the changes are nice.

The wierd thing is that we've seen Glocks shipped with the RTF2 texture but normal slide serrations. I don't know if that is the norm now and that they have abandoned that look.

HAHAHAHA! It's nothing personal Anthony most of just hate SR9s. They are one the ugliest guns I've seen. Mind you it puts rds down range, but there is no sex appeal to it.

I just realized that too. I thought that the new Glocks would all have the RTF's style slide which is actually pretty nice and very easy to grab. the RTF's grip would tear you up for concealed carry but for a duty pistol (I said duty :) ) that would be my first choice. there's no way that thing is slipping on you with that grip! maybe they didn't want to change the look too much?

I think the RTF style slide is kind of goofy, and these new glocks are suppose to actually have more of a rubbery feel to them I think rather than the sand paper RTF. So it should be a pretty nice gun, but I'm not waiting for it. I'm going to get a third gen 27.

ProfessorStoneFace

they both have the same polymer frame and feel the same to me in terms of the material itself. the gen 4 is like the RTF if the RTF wasn't as rough, like you smoothed off a RTF.

I agree the slide of the RTF is a little goofy. I think it's just weird to see curves on a Glock :) if they just made the straight grooves deeper I think they would accomplish the same thing without changing the Glock "look" too much. if the gun is a little oily or your hands a little sweaty then the Glock slide can be a little hard to grip, especially for chicks.

Agreed on several accounts!
