So I have been doing alot of research in getting a 1911 for carry. I've looked at everything from custom $3000 nighthawks to $500 RIA 1911 and everything in between. However, I think I have decided on the 1911 for me. The springfield armory LW Champion Operator. I have owned a springer longslide in the past and that was an amazing weapon. Traded it eventually for an AR15 (regret that one). Also owned a taurus 1911, was an ok gun, had good features but it would FTF or FTE every now and then so I traded it. Been carrying mostly glocks but have once again been bitten by the 1911 bug.
So, does anyone have any experience with the SA LW Cham Operator? Anyone local that would let me shoot theirs? Looks like a good gun from what I have read.
I have the TRP.. pretty much the same as the operator, minus the rail.. probably going to Trail Glades on Sunday.. you are welcome to shoot it if you like..

Ok, so I found a smoking deal on a barely used one with VZ diamond grips. Went ahead and told him I would take it after all the good things I keep reading about the LW operator. Hmmmm, first mod tho would prob be a trigger job, replace MSH, bobtail, and some checkering on the front strap.
:)

you gonna likey... VZ diamonds are rough
the front strap checkering on my gun is also VERY aggressive... I think it is 20lpi, would be better if it were 25lpi or 30

WOW is all I can say about my new SA LW Champion Operator. I can shoot one ragged hole with it at 15 yards no problem. Narry a hiccup either. It ate the crappy tula 45 acp steel cased ammo and the winchester elite supreme hollow points and kept asking for more. I am currently getting a custom carry rig built up for me. Leather belt, dual mag pouch, and an IWB leather holster with custom stamped letters. I am hoping they can stamp "the barrel of a 45 says go away in every language" on the mouth of the holster. Pics will be forthcoming. Picking up a 2nd SA LW Champion Operator on thursday hopefully too.
Oh it also fit right into my Comptac spartan glock 23 holster so I am carrying it today. It honestly is just a tad heavier than the glock due to the aluminum frame. Great gun all around.

Tula ammo isn't crap, it fires every time (Wolf subcontractor, very high manufacturing standards).

It's called a "New York Reload" haha. I got two cause they were both deals that were pretty much steals.
