Hey guys, I was just wondering... How do the rules on carrying a knife with a carry permit compare and contrast from the rules of a gun? I know you're allowed to, but with a gun it seems more likely you'll have more shit to deal with legally. A lot to take into account. Was the assailant's weapon or threat great enough to use a gun in your defense? Are there innocent bystanders that you might hit?

I am asking because I am interested in getting a nicely sized carry knife for when I don't feel like carrying my gun around. So my main question is... can you get away with more using a knife? Or would it be about the same? IE If you get jumped by multiple assailants in a fist fight where perhaps using a gun would land you a prison sentence, would the knife perhaps not?

Also, any suggestions on a nicely sized fixed blade that has some sort of in the pants or boot sheath?

EDIT: On the Ka-bar website right now looking at this https://www.kabar.com/product/productDetail.do?productNumber=1245&mode=category&categoryId=1,2,3,7&categoryName=Military/Tactical

:) How to conceal?

Nice knife. That would be pretty hard to conceal. They normally come with a sheath also. Again it will be hard to carry around. As far as the legal purposes I am sure you would be in the same boat with using a gun or knife. You know how criminals have more rights than any upstanding member of society.

Can't be harder to conceal than my XDm haha. Maybe I'll get the shorter version of that one and stick it in my boot and put a piece of velcro around my leg :)

For some reason I think it'll be a lot worse with a knife than a gun. The public generally views crimes where individuals get slashed, cut or stabbed as hanus etc. Just imagine what the prosecuters will conjur up once they realize that you own and carry guns and have a background in self defense with a knife etc. I think for the sake of not coming cruel or whatever you want to call it you're beter off just shooting the sob.

Nooooo, don't say that. :( I had thought about that too. There might be a whole bunch of "that was premeditated" bullshit. It's really bullshit what they are doing lately. I mean sure, a criminal still goes to jail for committing a crime in the first place, but the difference is, he doesn't care so he has the upper hand. We DO care, so we have so much to take into account.

I'm thinking about getting the Ka-bar TDI as a back-up knife now. https://www.kabar.com/product/productDetail.do?productNumber=1483&mode=category&categoryId=1,7,9&categoryName=Law%20Enforcement

Some of them come with little belt loops that you can hang over your belt from inside the pants in the sheath like a concealed handgun holster. It's suppose to be put on the side of your off hand as back-up in case you are in a close up situation where you can't grab your gun. You grab this knife, that is angled to cut deep, and give'em a good slash.

You got one?

No sir! I've played with a friends a few times. He loves it hands down as a back up. He's had to use it once I believe on duty and has no complaints about it's performance.

That last one looks pretty useful and easy to carry on an ankle strap or something like that.

I was thinking more like inside the pants with a over the top of the belt clip on the off side of my glock 27.

I have two of the TDI knives. I love them. Perfect back ups and being fixed means no wasting time to open the blade.

How do you rig it up? I've seen some pictures on the interwebz showing two belt loop type things that screw on the sheath and hang over your pants from the inside like the crossbreed holster does.
