View Full Version : Thinking of picking up an auto

I'm strongly considering aquiring a tactical model auto w/threaded barrel for a can. What little experience I have, is with a suppressed .22 and I'm looking for something within 9MM, .40 & .45.
As far as the calibers mentioned above, which of the three would have the least report with a decent can ?

least report would be a 9mm... look at the SWR Trident as it has removable encaps for different attachments (ie, threads, 3 lug)
least report would be a 9mm...
:iagree:
The key thing that you have to consider when choosing the right firearm for suppression is the design of the breech lock if applicable and availability of threaded barrels.
A tactical pistol with a factory threaded barrel is a plus as you don't need to worry about fitting and function for the most part. Guns with a delayed breech lock that tilts the barrel most likely requires the use of a recoil assist device attached to the suppressor commonly called a Neilsen device or LID. The weight of the suppressor changes the dynamics of how the barrel will tilt and lock and unlock with the cycle. The device actually "disconnects" the suppressor from the barrel after the shot pulse allowing the barrel to be less impacted from the mass of the suppressor. Some pistols however are more finicky than others.
I have an AAC Evo 9 that, like the SWR, allows the install of various mounts for various applications. I use a fixed tri-lug mount for the 9mm AR, a 13.5x1 LH mount with LID for my sig 226, and a 1/2x28 mount with LID for my G26. The G26 doesn't like the suppressor at all. I still need to do a few tweaks but the outlook is not so good. I have a G19 that I might want to get a threaded barrel for down the road.
Lastly, you want to use subsonic ammunition to keep the report down and eliminate the sonic crack of a supersonic bullet. Almost any 147 gr 9mm round will be subsonic out of a pistol length barrel. Or you can buy subsonic 9mm ammo.

Excellent! 9MM it is.
Great info. I never consider the dynamics of an attachement on a tilt barrel.
You seem to have quite of knowledge on suppression. I'm inclined on Sig or H&K. Is it advised to use a full size unit for suppression or would a sub-compact also work?
The reason I ask is because I have a P228 and maybe that could be an alternative to purchasing a whole unit. What's your take?
IMHO, it should work fine with a 228, but finding a Sig barrel might be tough, though I think you can find a Jarvis barrel and have it fitted. You may also want to consider getting a .40 suppressor and use it for the 9mm and be able to use it for any .40 you have or may get in the future.

Cool good to know although the .40 I have right now is a Glock 27 and I think I don't want to hush that puppy up.
Thx. for the leadway. I'm going to conduct some research to compare and weight out my $$$ options and we'll see which way I head to.

Alright..
I think I might of found a good deal on a SIG226-9-TAC (E26R-9-TAC-TB) NIB which SIG stop making, from what I was told.
Any one here has any feedback on these. Pls keep in mind that this one will be canned.
Thx.

USP 45 Compact Tactical? But I'm partial to HK over Sig.

As some of you may already know I'm awaiting on the deal mentioned above.
The reason that I decided to go with a whole new host is because my 228 is one of my daily carry and I would hate to mod it. This 226 was not a bad deal, already comes with threaded barrel, high cap and railing. I've also only read good things on canning 226s
As I mentioned earlier this is my first suppressor project so I will be posting questions to assist me on this build.
Thx

Hehehe... I would love to jump into this like now but This month I've taken a hit buying a Mac Pro. As soon as I recover I'll start dressing her up.

Dark side? Please... Apple wants everyone to think they are going to the dark side because the dark side is cool. But really, getting a Mac makes you lazier. The machine is feature limited by Apple, they streamline how you do things so you must do it their way, and their entire operating system and branded software is complete infringement on existing products (yet they love to sue in the name of protecting their IP). I won't even go into how Mac's are only 4% of the market and Mac software only accounts for less than 1/100 of a % of the software currently made.
It is sad when the only friends you have in the software market for your platform is Microsoft (Office for Mac is still the largest selling software on Macs) and Blizzard (because even confused beatniks need to play WoW).
I used to own a Mac, back when they had potential. Back when the company had a brilliant OS that was easy to repair and could be booted from a floppy in a pinch. Back when they had actual real game companies making software for their platform exclusively (Bungie ring a bell?). Back when the hardware in a Mac was actually a generation ahead of the general PC market. Back when you could emulate a PC on a Mac and it ran as fast as a PC within the emulation. That is when a Mac was cool, part of the Dark Side, and had true advantages over PC's.
Apple OS X was the beginning of their downfall into "we're just a fad/status symbol now, instead of an actual bleeding edge computer". When they got off the IBM CPU's and switched to Intel, that completed the conversion. Now they change you for OS upgrades that Microsoft considers Service Packs, nickle and dime for software that comes built-in to Windows like Movie Maker, and make their machines a pain to upgrade... but if you do succeed you have voided your hardware and software support warranties because you went against the wishes of the great Apple Core.
Sorry... I just feel bad for Apple. They should not have brought Jobs back. He's a communist that was kicked out. The iPod and metal MacBook's were already being developed before they brought him back and then he steps in to say it was all him like he's Jesus. I'm glad the fucker is dying. They lost their niche now because even publishers and movie makers are switching away from Mac because they can't keep up with the advances in PC anymore (when they used to be ahead by a generation). Now Tesla rigs are being used to crunch the hard stuff and make the pretty pictures.

I am a musician that plays 6 instruments and I record, mix, master and compose all of my song by myself. And guess what? I don't use Pro-tools or a Mac like the industry supposedly does. In fact the best engineer I know uses the same program I use, which is Cakewalk Sonar 7 for the PC.

No problem mon, no harm done and I appreciate your input. After all, that's what forums are for..
I've done the PC thing all my life and even high end ones at one point. I've come to point in my life where my career and/or high end hobby does not depend on computers and I never owned a MAC
I have friends and family that have PCs & MACs and it is just one of those things were I just got to get one for my own experience. So far from the little experience that I have with MAC products like I-Phones, I-Pods and now PCs I'm very impressed and even though they might not be the top dog product in that category, it serves me well.
I'm just getting my feet wet in the MAC Pro so it will be a while until I would be capable of giving my solid opinion between PCs & MACs
