So today I decided to tear apart every piece of my XDm's slide. It was a lot simpler than I had imagined. I've only put about 1,000 rounds through it, but the problem was, I've been going oil happy since I got the gun. Being a newb, I didn't know any better, so I got oil everywhere and it eventually seeped into every little cavity and space in the gun, thus leading to dirt and grime build up.

I think the lot of you are pretty well experienced, but just in case there's anyone on here that has never fully disassembled an XD, here's the link I followed. http://www.xd-hs2000.com/disassembly/slidedisassembly.html

All you really need is...

-Your usual cleaning supplies

-A 3/32 punch tool

-A good L shaped "dental" pick

And if you're as dumb as me, from now on, keep the back of your gun dry. ;)

lol I was thinking about taking the lower section apart, but not tonight. Oil dripped down there too and there's a bit of build up of debris.

Sorry, but you did not. If you had tried to remove the front and rear sights, you would have posted back on here cursing up a shit storm saying that the fucking retards in Croatia that designed and manufactured the gun must be used to using the sights as a fucking crowbar or hammer instead of normal fucking gun sights. Or maybe it's a case of them building a press to make a square peg fit in a round hole because they are too fucking stupid to correctly design sights with proper tolerances.

BTW, Glock sights fit perfectly every time. That is consistent and acurate machining. :duel:

Why would I take the sights off? And besides, the Glock sights are funky. I can't stand them. I don't know why they can't just have 3 dots that line up like everyone else.

Besides needing a sledge hammer to remove factory sights from an XD, I would have to say you would never have to worry about them. Loose fits of sights on guns never give me the warm fuzzy feeling. If you drop the gun the sights pop off or shift and you know that would never happen with an XD.

Phil, I think its time I get another XD, looking at the XD45 now 4" model.

Cris, get the Compact. You'll enjoy the carry of the shorter grip like your XD9sc.

We don't have the compact right now, was trying to look at the grip size the other day. I know the compact still carries 13 rounds, so how much shorter could it be?

It's about the same as the 9 compact. With the extended grip piece it's pretty much full size at that point. Harder to conceal!

The XD compact .45ACP has nearly the same dimensions as the Glock 30. They both hold 10 rounds. It's obviously a little bigger than the .40 and 9mm sub-compacts, but It's still concealable. I conceal an XDm under a polo shirt. To me, a XD compact would be a blessing.

Schmucks.

The XD45 Compact has a shorter grip than the XD45 Service/Tactical, but the grip is still longer than the XD9/40 Subcompact models.

Here is a good picture for demonstration below. The XD45 Compact's grip is just a little longer and, when combined with the slight lip of the standard mag, is just long enough to get your fingers on it without needing a grip extension. Many people that put Pearce extensions on the compact mags (compact mag holds 10 rounds btw, but they also come with a full length 13 round mag that has a sleeve on it like the subcompacts) end up shaving them down a lot to provide just a small amount of extra finger space over the standard mag.

I may just go with the regualar 4", I will be carrying it in the crossbreed holster anyway. I don't think its enough of a difference to warrant the compact. I will try in the holster first to make a decision though. Until I do that I can't make a good decision on it.

I don't think its enough of a difference to warrant the compact. It is, trust me. Carrying the XDm sucks sometimes, mostly due to the fact that the grip frame sticks out. That compact grip makes all the difference, but the nice thing about the .45 compact (I've shot Jax's) is that unlike the 9 and .40 subcompacts, there's still enough room to have a comfortable spot for your pinky, but it's still a lower profile dimension. You get the molded extension anyways. *shrug* But like you said, try it.

If Cris isn't looking to have it as his main carry weapon, then the XD45 Service will be a better fit as a range pistol. The Compact is for people that want to carry. The reason I say this is because the Compact standard mag is 10 rounds. Some people want the 13 round mags for the range, but when they have the grip sleeves on it can make fast mag changes a little awkward because you have to loosen your grip for the mag to drop.

I'd like to just add a lot more 10 round standard Compact mags for this purpose as 10 rounds if perfect for any situation short of competitions... it's also easier to count your shots with a 10 round mag over an odd number like 13.

Meh, what's the point of having a .45 just for the range. It's a great defensive caliber, so you might as well get one you're going to carry and practice with.
