81-year-old Queens, NY grandmother shoots .38 at noisy 73-year-old high-heel clad neighbor.

Police last week arrested an 81-year-old Forest Hills woman after she allegedly shot a neighbor whose noisy high heels and late night noise irritated her, authorities said.
Maria Cartagena was charged with attempted murder and criminal possession of a weapon after she allegedly pulled a revolver from her fanny pack and fired at Iraida Palmieri, the 73-year-old wife of jazz musician Eddie Palmieri, Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said.
Cartagena was released on $25,000 bail at her arraignment at Queens Criminal Court.
Palmieri, who was treated for a graze wound, left her Forest Hills apartment to seek solace at her daughter’s Manhattan home, sources said.
Investigators said Cartagena attacked her upstairs neighbor when she became enraged over late night noise that came from Palmieri’s apartment, and the sound of Palmieri’s high heels clacking on the floor of her apartment.
Neighbors gave another account, saying the dispute centered on national heritage, with Palmieri coming from Puerto Rico and the Cartagenas from the Dominican Republic.
Palmieri told police she was taking out her recyclables on the evening of the attack when the elevator door opened to reveal Cartagena inside.
Cartagena told Palmieri, “Move over or I’ll kill you,” then repeated the threat and opened fire with her .38-caliber revolver. One round traveled through Palmieri’s hat and grazed her head, Brown said.
Cartagena’s husband told investigators he purchased the weapon out of a concern for safety. The frazzled husband told police he “never believed” his wife would use the weapon.
