So I've gone back and forth, comparing all types of 1911's to invest in..Kimber, Wilson Combat, Taurus didn't make the cut (thanks Cris!), so I am debating on putting out the big paper and getting either the Springfield Operator or the Nighthawk Custom GRP Recon $$$

I know either way it's gonna be a heavy piece of change, but I rather do it right the first time, so I don't have to buy it twice..I know Nighthawk gives LE pricing, I wonder if Springfield does the same...feel free to chime in!

The benefit of working at a gun store is that you can paw at a Nighthawk, Les Baer, Ed Brown, STI, or Wilson Combat when they come in from time to time. They obviously are really good guns with actions that are glass smooth and tight. The Operator is a really good 1911 and IMHO sort of in a class by itself. Better than the Kimber but not quite the elite group. That said, I don't think I've ever been as impressed with what you get for the money as I was with the near custom work of the Dan Wesson 1911's from CZ. The level of fitting rivals that of the elite guns. Definitely worth looking into.

There was a 1911 in the shop today, I think it was Les Baer that when I pulled the trigger and felt the action of the slide I almost creamed my pants. The price tag definitely reflects it though. The Operator is still my dream though, I will own one.

Yes, yes I am. That's cause I can't afford the better stuff. So I keep my self on a level playing filed where I know I won't go outside my limits.

I am well aware of the custom shop. Again the price tag follows. One of the customers at GT is having two XDM45's sent out to have them all macked out. This doesn't flinch at price tags though.
