Wow, i know this is old but here's an answer:

Look for the "Draco" pistol. A bunch of dealers have them. PM me if you need specific places.

can a draco be registered as an SBR and have a stock added... or will the build of the pistol not allow for this?

The prices I have heard for these have ranged from $350-400. Yes, they can be SBR'd. A few customers have brought them in done.

I've always had that idea of making it an SBR! Awesome firearm! Definitely looks better as a pistol than an AR15 with that buffer tube sticking out. Always hated that look.

You can get AR pistols now without the buffer tube. Rock River makes the PDS.

Bushmaster has had a pistol setup like that for a long time too. Only thing I have against those is that you can't do much with them and you are locked to the OEM for parts/upgrades.

I was also considering a SBR project for a while now..
I looked into a AK type but the recoil kinda defeats the purpose of it, so I started to look into a 5.56 to convert and I'm strongly considering a SIG556 pistol.
It's super reliable, it cycles all type of ammo, it uses AR type mags and it is a piston gas system which is perfect for a SBR.
