I've come accross a poss. deal with an FN FS2000 Tactical.

The looks on this perticular rifle is like a double edge sord. Some find it attractive and some find it as a spoiled, redheaded, stepchild.
I've not conducted any mayor research on this one yet since I'm still at work and I'm heavily handicapped by the network's filters.
What is your opinion/outake and/or experience on this rifle?

I have a personal friend that has one and the only negative info that I got from him was that he finds this rifle very finicky with the rounds that it uses. He tends to think it is due to the shell dispensing design and it only happens when he uses low grade surplus ammo and similar low grade ammo like wolf's. He did mentioned that this problem does not happen when military ball is used.

lThanks,
Max

Some don't like the recoil felt by bullpup's or rotating bolt weapons because there is little to no buffer system. The FS2000 has the advantage of being forward ejection so it is more ambi/support-side/lefty friendly. It is a .223 weapon so there is no odd (expensive) caliber involved. Can only use USGI metal 30 round M16/M4/AR14 mags (no polymers and no 20 rounders). Mags do not drop free when you hit the mag release. Bolt doesn't lock back after last round is fired (must pull the charging handle for each new mag if you don't reload before the last round is fired). And forget about a mag change from the prone position.

But it is a well built and highly reliable closed weapon system.

I say get it SBR'd, chop the barrel down a bit, and then find someone that makes 37mm EGLM launchers or MasterKey's for the F2000 to really give it an out of this world look.

Never got to fire one but I did have to clean one at the shop. Not an easy cleaning gun.

Well, last night I was able to conduct a bit of research on these and the pros and cons seems to be pretty consistent accross the board for the most accounts and reviews.

I will try to work on this deal. I'm getting a warm fuzzy feeling about this one.

The pros that I've read has been that:
They are very accurate.
They are reliable as long as your are using good ammo (not like an AK where it just eats anything thrown it way).
They are well balanced and just about the same weight as a feather light stoner.
There is almost no recoil, as reported it seems that the birdcage style brake/flash hider is very efficient (but it is threaded and pinned)
They also take USGI mags.
They are short and easy to handle in tight environments.

The cons were reported as:
The rifle is nto worth $2100
They don't recommend to use cheap ammo (specially Wolf's lacquered/low power) but there are accounts where it shoots it just fine by adjusting the piston system. Like the SIG556 and FAL type rifles, they are equiped with 2 settings so they can operate realiably even with heavy fouling.
Magazines don't drop due to a rubber seal inside of the mag well which is design to keep foreign materials out but, it is possible to remove this seal allowing the mag to drop freely.
The rifle is not worth $1900
Not really an aftermarket option except for the FN's accesories lineup.
The trigger is as heavy as Rosie O'donnell..... Really! they state it is almost 12lbs of pull. Yes it is not a long range precision weapon but there are simple ways to bring it down to 6lbs with simple work to it.
The rifle is not worth $1600 (but getting close).
They are not confortable for everyone (I hope it is for me)

I'll try to work this deal. Lets see how it works out at the end.

It's definitely only worth about 1200-1400$ as a "closed loop" system with few options/upgrades/accessories. I personally think the PS90 is only worth 1200$ as well... but you are paying a lot for the name when you buy FN (just like H&K, Colt, KAC, Sig, etc).

If you do enough muscle training with the FS2000 to get used to the mag change method and the need to charge it for every new mag... and rolling to the side to change mags from the prone. The system is definitely short, maneuverable, and consistent though as you've read.

I'd buy one if I could afford it as a rarely used toy. I'd be more inclined to get a barely used PS90 and SBR it before I got the FS2000 though.

Right now I'm at $1500 shipped on a Tactical model with less than 100 rds thru her.
