what are your thoughts on the .40 for EDC?
or would the 9mm be a better choice?

thanks.

.40 SC is a nice tool. I like the 9mm and all, but you can't beat the bang of the .40

Well, honestly I wanted the 9mm SC because it has 4 more rounds and I was good with a 9mm already, but a deal arose for a .40sc and I took it. If you haven't seen my thread of that gun, basically I was impressed with how low the recoil was on it. For such a snappy round in a small package, it shot almost as smoothly as my full sized 9mm XDm. Which I am sure has a lot to do with the polymer frame, and the engineering of the HS2000 and Springfield(weight distribution of the slide, spring tension, and bore axis etc). Now I am confident I could take someone out with a 9mm, but it's nice to have a slightly bigger round. The hollow point comparison between 9mm and .40 I would say has a bigger gap than between .40 and .45, but maybe I am just crazy. There's been a lot of dispute over ballistic comparisons, but a 9mm has a .36 projectile, making .40 and 9mm seem closer in size, but IMO, because of the more narrow tip of a 9mm jacket, it seems to me that the hollow points don't expand as much in ratio when compared to a .40S&W or .45ACP. This is really a topic for someone like Jax or :ss1: though.

Those are just my opinions, but I think it's really all in your gripping and trigger pull technique when it comes to handling a snappy pistol. As I have said many times, watch hickok45's Glock 27 videos on Youtube. He makes consistent plinking shots from 20-80yards with that little .40cal Glock.

i like the crimson trace...does it interfere with your holster?

The magic sauce in a good sub compact is the use of a dual captive spring system like those found in the XD service, compact, and sub compact models. It makes a world of difference over felt recoil and muzzle climb compared to standard spring/guide rod setups on short barreled pistols.

Still waiting to shoot Satan's XD40sc before I decide to buy an XD9sc for the woman.

Yeah, I still haz no moneyz. Car just got new clutch, fly wheel, alternator, belt, 4 new tires, and a battery. I'm broke!

The Crimson Trace does not interfere with my holster. I use a crossbreed supertuck, and the kydex mold that the gun fits into only comes up to the trigger frame on the gun, so the grip frame is completely clear. Works great. I usually just tuck a X-large "wife-beater" tank top over the holster, then put on any of my usual Large T-shirts. It's comfortable even in this scorching hot summer heat.

Also, my crossbreed has the horse hide upgrade. You WILL soak it in sweat in the summer in Florida. The horse hide is more durable in that department.

First choice would be a .45, next .40.

I had a SC XD .40 and got rid of it... with a lazermax lazer and everything... I just did not like it, could not tell you what, I tried everything to make myself like it, but jus couldn't... it was a great gun though.

That is a general statement when it comes to .40 cals. A lot of people are unable to manipulate a .40 efficiently. It is not my choice of caliber either. Although I have been debating on getting one.

I have an XD .40 and love it to death, but the SC I just could not get used to.

Did you have the Pearce grip extensions on the mags?

if i were to ever go back to the .40 platform, it would have to be either the 3.5 or 4.0 barrel.

Don't you have a 4" .40 cal now?

no that defeats the purpose, I wanted it to be as compact as possible for carry use.

I prefer the XD45c. Perfect length and height as far as I'm concerned. Hoping they keep that shit the same when the do the XDm 45 Compact. If they don't, then I won't upgrade.

I miss my SC40, but then again I have huge hands and didn't really have much trouble with it.
