A saw a few nice deals on there.

chrismia
10-08-2008, 06:01 PM
but you have to have it shipped to a local dealer, right?
i can't imagine they like it when you do that. it's taking business away from them.

Cris
10-08-2008, 06:02 PM
Not really, they still get there cut from the transfer fee and background check. It's actually done quite often.

Chris
10-08-2008, 06:13 PM
yeah, honestly most transfers are around 25 bucks, most new gun sales have about a 25 dollar margin, so the dealer makes there money either way.

so you are saying that you can match some of these prices? :D

Cris
10-09-2008, 10:09 AM
Any gun that you are looking at definitely do your shopping. Remember if you order from these people I am sure they will charge you to ship to Florida. Then lets say if you transfer to Guntech, you will pay not only the shipping but the transfer fee at the local shop here. I would call these people or contact them in some form to find out all the details.

chrismia
10-09-2008, 10:33 AM
absolutely! i would take all of that into consideration.
i'd rather buy from someone i know, and i where i can actually see/ touch what i'm buying!

thanks cris

Cris
10-09-2008, 11:05 AM
Just something to consider, that's all. I have seen people do this. They end up paying more when all is done. For instance gun local is $320 they find it for $295, they get charge $30 for shipping and another $30 for background and transfer fee. I like to buy local also because then you can bring it back to that dealer with a problem. In other cases you have to ship through and FFL once again.

For an Eotech, I would personally zero it in at 25 yards, so for shot placement beyond up to 100 yards, you will be a few inches high (about 6" at 100). Tactically, you can be sure to put the dot on center mass of the target and hit it. Second choice would be a 50 yrd zero, as it will be a "flatter" trajectory throughout the usefull range of a non magnified optic like the Eotech but just remember that you have to aim a little high in close up shots and the opposite beyond 50. I just think it's easier to know that it will always shoot a little high beyond CQB.

If you are already on paper, there's probably little need for you to laser bore sight it. Just take 5 or less calculated rounds with a bench rest.

so when do you want to zero in my gun? lol

I was telling Cris that I was stand up shooting, and all my shots went left and high at both distances. I was looking through the eotech and lining it up with the front iron, then lining that up with the rear iron. He told me that was my prob right there.. I am going to try to just use the eotech, and then just use the iron sights and see which one is off and adjust accordingly.

Yeah, very common mistake probably because it it so natural to acquire the front sight first.

but shouldn't both targeting systems line up ?

ss1
10-23-2008, 09:38 PM
but shouldn't both targeting systems line up ?
Technically, yes. Since the eotech is a holographic sight, the reticle will shift with your line of sight to maintain point of impact. Should you happen to line up the front sight with the eotech while it is still on target, it still should line up. However, most people who try to use both will probably wind up in some awkward line of sight position if it is not perfectly cowitnessed and that alone will affect your accuracy.

lino
10-23-2008, 10:12 PM
new word for me cowitnessed:

One of the advantages of a nonmagnified optical gun sight, such as an Aimpoint Red Dot or EoTech Holographic Weapons Sight, is the ability to mount it to cowitnesses with your iron sights. Cowitness simply means your optic is mounted on the same plane as your iron sights, allowing you to aim through your optic when using your iron sights.

lino, take a bicycle innertube and cut it to at least the length of the tape switch and slip it over the bipod grip. You can then shove the tape switch under the tube when you need to. I'm almost positive I used a 26"x1.5" innertube but you may need a larger one (26"x1.75" or more) to fit the grip pod.

The tango down grip for the light contains the extra batteries as well, so Im not sure if I want to completely remove it from the mix, but I might try that one... thanks, and keep the ideas coming...

If the CR123 batteries don't fit in the tubes in the sopmod then get rid of that Hogue grip and replace it with a Magpul MIAD with the CR123 insert, that way you can keep batteries on hand, plus your selector won't be hung up on the grip anymore. :D

Oh, and while you are at it spending money, get an EOTech 553 that uses the CR123's and not the N batteries that your 511 uses. That way you don't have to carry two difference sets of backup batteries. ;)

I think they WILL fit in the sopmod tubes.... never had an issue with the selector.. but now I will have to double check.

The 511 will have to stay... no money for that project right now

Now, if you have a free donor 553, thats a different story... :)

I'm getting the flip to side with the quick release version. I'll have to move the eotech forward a little but you only need enough room between the eotech and rear sight for the mount. the magnifier will sit above the rear sight.

After reading PSF's post... I got a new addition for my AR... the EOTECH 3x with the flip to the side mount

I've been known to have a good idea once or twice a year....

I've never looked at those Eotech magnifiers that closely and seeing yours, I realize that it has the same large "grip ring" as the clone that's floating around at the store. The one on the clone is non functional, yet really in the way of a BUIS, leading to my biggest complaint on it. Does the "ring" on the eotech do anything? Diopter, focus, etc? Mounted where it is, do you have proper eye relief?

lino
03-31-2009, 04:53 PM
Does the "ring" on the eotech do anything? Diopter, focus, etc? Mounted where it is, do you have proper eye relief?

its fixed at 3x no adjustment ( i think.. didnt play with it too much )

eye reilef: I did not really fiddle with it enough, but it seemed to have enough distance to get a full field of view.. I will find out when I actually take it out and shoot.. might have to end up removing the rear BUIS if it is too far forward..

I need some experts ( hint hint) next time I take this out to look at all of this with me..

thanks for your help...

lino

Mounted where it is, do you have proper eye relief?

so I started looking at this last night.. I think you are onto something.. I removed my ARMS 40 BUIS and moved the magnifier back a bit.. and I get a better field of view... probably will end up getting a diff flatter BUIS and sell off the current one..

lino
07-21-2009, 10:15 AM
so.... After getting the Eotech 3X, I realized that the A.R.M.S. #40 was too tall and I was not getting proper eye relief where the scope was mounted so far forward to allow the room for the #40. I purchased a A.R.M.S. #40L and then moved the 3X scope and the HWS back two notches.

http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u192/pichichi13/HPIM3002.jpg

I now have proper clearance and proper eye relief.

Same here. Out of my 1600 rounds of 45 I'm already down to 400 rounds remaining after today. Someone decided not to sell me the 45 they original got for me so I'm starving. Been shooting about 200 rounds per week on average. If I do continue to shoot it'll have to be Wolf or reloads. Tried some Wolf along with some WWB and the WWB was much dirtier and nearly gagged me compared to the Wolf.

Going to focus on defense ammo now and get some AR-15's built after I buy some more lowers (preparing for any possible AWB reinstatement).

Dan

I honestly dont mind Wolf but some of the indoor ranges here will not let you use Wolf. I dont understand.

For the same reason they don't allow S&B at some ranges. Ignorance. Granted some stuff could be considered "steel core" but it still isn't armor piercing. Armor plate tho is expensive and quite an investment. I generally respect their wishes since it's their property and business and not bother to argue or complain tho.

JaxChris
08-05-2009, 04:36 PM
Another thing I forgot to mention about the Wolf - it consistently ejected to the same location on the ground every round. The WWB, Federal Champion, and Blazer Brass did not come anywhere close to this.

Once people are done gouging a little on the Wolf (because it's so cheap they can gouge and it still be cheap) it should be lowered priced than Walmart ammo again like it was until mid-2008. After that happens and Wolf is the ultimate low-priced leader again I'll definitely be switching if acquiring decently priced reloads is still a problem.

Only reason I like reloads is you can request custom loads from the maker when you order (as long as he has the powders and load data to do it).

Looky here homo no ones talking to you. We all know that you're undecided on what you are. You wake up each wonder if you're going to speak spanish or english.
Oh by the way have you been pulled over by BSO lately in Oakland Park? There was a little rumor that you had a run in. You know you being an immigrant and all you're an easy target......:raspberry:

Anyone that knows me, knows that the language is never a topic of thought. I speak English, I live in the USA.

How did you hear about when my buddy Johnny pulled me over. I thought that was what they did when they had to pat you down. :bolt:

Why you talking like some illegal? Don't like it, leave?!? =)

Btw Cris is, for all intents and purposes, as white or whiter than I am. I've never once heard him speak a lick of spanish. He considers himself American, without the hyphen. My kind of guy. (hey big boy! *wink* sorry that SecPro is denying what you two had, need a hug? lol)

Well when you decide to sell that thing for 250-300$ for the pistol & mags only let me know. I'll take it.

Other topic, why are you buying that when you're dealing with the time/cost of getting your duty gun back?

I have my duty guns. That was PERSONAL! All I have are duty guns, which is why I bought that to be another carry weapon.
That's next believe me!

Well if I sell sell you're on the list. It'll be more than $300 I can tell you that now for I will be making changes. Match grade barrel, and whatever other little upgrades I can find.

JaxChris

Keep the original parts and sell off the upgrades separately. You'll make more back that way. I just want the factory pistol and mags for possible pocket carry or for the woman's purse. Hopefully I'll find an XDsc pocket holster I can modify for XD45c duty though. =)

Yea, when you mentioned match barrel it made it pretty obvious. You can probably sell a good brand used match barrel for about 75-80% of its' value on the XD forums.
