it'll be nice to have something a little cheaper to shoot at Markham than my AR-15 so I think I'm going to start a 10-22 build. I don't think it'll be too crazy. I was thinking I'd get the Hogue overmolded body, a nice bull barrel, trigger, and the usual other mods like the extended mag release. then a bipod and a decent scope and it'll be all set. I'll probably just get a stripped receiver and build it from scratch rather than buy the whole thing and take off most of the parts.
anyone got any suggestions for the barrel or the trigger?
I'm very happy with my build. The trigger kit is awesome, and it came with the extended mag release. Here's what I suggest.
Volquartsen Action Parts Kit Plus Ruger 10/22 Silver - $137.99

Volquartsen Extended Bolt Handle and Recoil Spring Assembly Ruger 10/22 Silver - $29.49

I didn't know you put a fluted barrel on Dave. I like it, very nice. You are making me want to do one now also. Fuck, I may have to do it now.

I was looking at 20" barrels, mainly for the look but it should be that little bit more accurate I would think. that trigger kit looks cool, they said it ends up being about a 2.5 pound pull, that should be nice.
what about optics? wasn't there some nice Nikons that didn't break the bank?

youll see it tommorow
I'm happy with the BSA. It's clear and I like the high mag. It's a 22...it's not like you really need a really nice scope on it. How far you planning on shooting? I really want to get accurate with it at 100 yrds. The BSA's come in all different mags for relatively the same price too.
Looking forward to working with it some more in the morning. Think I'm gonna try the 700 out for the first time too. Gotta see if I've got some ammo for it. I really don't want to stop on the way down.

I'll be shooting at markham so 100 yards at the most on a regular basis. found a couple of scopes that seem like good deals...

personally i think a buckmaster may be a bit overkill and the millett you selected is a little low on magnification, at least for me personally.
If the farthest you ever plan to shoot is 100 yards a mil-dot is really not useful
This is the one I run and im very happy with it

Here's the one I put on my 10/22

both of those look pretty cool, I like the whole mil dot thing but I doubt I'll ever get to really use it.
+1 what Chris said. I have an inexpensive 3x9 Redfield on mine. It was on my deer gun, but it works just fine as a range optic.

we'll have to see now, the way the election is looking I might have to start stock piling hi-cap mags and stripped lowers instead of builing a complete rifle :(

I a step off I bought the barrel/stock combo from J&G and will be testing it out tommorow at Markham.. the fit and finish were great for $137 plus shipping.. I will post a range report tommorow after I zero it and run some rnds thru it..
