i've never heard people bash taurus guns as bad as you all :(

either way, they fit my budget much better than a lot of the other big name brands. and this is perfect for the guy, like me, who makes it to the range once in a while.

keep them coming lino! :D

i'll have to post some now :p

How about a little info on this one Lino, how it shoots and so on?

How about a little info on this one Lino, how it shoots and so on?

Caliber 9mm Luger (9x19); Capacity 15+1; Barrel length 5"; Overall length 8.5"; Height 5.39"; Width 1.45"; Weight 34 ounces; Sights Blade front, micrometer click-adjustable rear; Manual safety Ambidextrous, locks trigger and slide; Finish Blue

In 1980, Taurus purchased the Beretta factory in Sao Paulo, Brazil "lock, stock and barrel" and immediately sought to improve on the Beretta design, resulting in the popular and acclaimed Taurus 92 and 99 9mm pistols.

The only difference that I know of was the use of Brazilian Steel instead of Italian Steel, and the non-decocking saftey.

I purchase it brand new back in 1987... It started its life with a Brazilian Walnut stock.
http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u192/pichichi13/pt99.jpg

I upgraded to the wrap-around Pachmeyr grip. I have put around 1500rnds through it (maybe more).

It holds 15 + 1, and can be carried cocked and locked.

As for accuracy, depends on the shooter.. with my crappy skills, I am pretty close to bullseye with this weapon; even my wife hit a bullseye with it.

It weighs around 2lbs and feels very smooth when fired. I have fed mixed ammo: factory loads, reloads, ball, fmj, hollow points... with no problems at all, never had a FTF, or FTE...

Next range day, I invite you to check it out.. You might change your mind!

Cris
11-10-2008, 01:58 PM
I'll check it out for sure, I still won't get one. Once again Taurus is not my preference, to each his own as they say. If you have a goody for the price you can't go wrong.

ss1
11-10-2008, 06:27 PM
Ahem. I own one as well. Satin nickel plated that I bought in '89 'cause I didn't want to spend the additional $125 bux for a Beretta 92F. I had once rationalized that I preferred the frame mounted safety as it was similar to the 1911 and kept things consistant. Comparing it to a Beretta as far as fit and finish, I'd have to say that you get your money's worth with the Beretta over the Taurus. At least on mine, the nickel plating flaked off at the crown of the barrel and the gun needs a little more attention to dehorning all the sharp edges. Otherwise, there's a place for them even in my safe, but the title of the thread said Taurus LOVERS which I can say I am not.

lino
11-10-2008, 06:47 PM
I knew there were some closet Taurus owners here.. :D

I do agree that the Beretta is a much nicer finished gun.. and if I were buying today, I would get it instead of the Taurus

We can surely take a look at it for you Lino at the shop. I am not familiar with firearm myself. You more than likely need to leave it at the shop at least over night.

ss1
04-09-2009, 11:20 AM
They are normally dovetailed sights. Lino, do you already have the replacement?

lino
04-09-2009, 11:38 AM
yes, but the ones that Taurus sent me were a few microns to wide :cussing: so I took the parts I needed from them and mounted on my original sights..

now I just need to re-insert the punch pin.. I began to do it ( with improper tools) and just lightly nicked the gun, so I stopped and will have to take it to a gunsmith to finish the install.

ss1
04-09-2009, 11:49 AM
Just saw the picture of your gun on the first page. So you have adjustable sights. We have various roll pin punchs that hold the pins while inserting and others with a centering "bump" at the tip. We also use brass punches in many applications. We could have used stone files to fit the sight to the slide. We can use bluing compound to patch up that scratch as long as it's bluing and not some funky coating.

lino
04-09-2009, 12:02 PM
when do you guys open on the weekends.. I would like to go by the shop and see if you could finish up the install for me.

They don't open on weekends. Tuesday-Friday 10 or 11-7 something like that. Hrs maybe off but most def only Tues-Fri

ss1
04-09-2009, 01:38 PM
11-7 Tues-Fri are the normal operating hours. I know those are tough hours for anyone not fairly close by, but there's usually the normal contingent of people there well after 7 to catch up on paperwork, doing inventory, builds, repairs, etc.

this thread has been too quite for too long sooooooo.. :raspberry:

today while getting out some Christmas lights I found a box with my Taurus's original Brazilian Walnut stocks.. gave the gun a good cleaning and oiling...

need to find something to clean the wrap around grips... tried soap and water, but it did not come out as I wanted..

http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u192/pichichi13/PC050560.jpg

also tried the touch up pen... I got gloss black.. needed flat.. but does not look bad in person.

I dont want to use something that will make the grip slippery.. want to clean it and make it grippy (if that is even a word)

I once worked for a copier company and one of the techs had a rubber rejuvenator liquid.. that one may be too harsh as it would probably stain the grips..
