View Full Version : gas rings
so I was cleaning my bolt and one of the gas rings poped out... I put it back in, but there seems to be a bigger gap in this one( since I had to pop it back in) than the other two.
The bolt went back in fine and all seems ok. Should I replace the rings? what harm could this do to the weapon?
What I've read is to just make sure the gaps in the three rings aren't all in line with each other even tho IMHO, it doesn't mean jack for most 14.5" or longer AR's. The compression from the carrier should force the ring that fell off to compress back into shape.

thanks, this weapon is new to me... glad to have some experienced people to answer my silly questions.
No silly questions, we are all learning all the time.

if your gas ring just feel off you need to replace it. The gas rings are a wearable part and should take a little effort to remove. they are extremely cheap and usually can be purchased in a kit with other action parts. That way you have a few extras of the parts that are prone to braking.

I kinda rubbed the gas ring out while cleaning.. it did not fall off on its own..
ill prob end up getting a new set, just in case.
