my AR has a rail that i mount my eotech 511 right on to it... I was told that it would be better to use a Larue Tactical LT110 mount.

My question is why is it better or not?

i believe to elevate the appeture over the sight tower or flip up sight

spikes is right. Most EoTechs will sit on the top rail so that the front sight base will partially obscure the reticle which is a 65 MOA circle with a 1 MOA dot. The Larue base raises it a little so that the sight is in the lower 1/3 of the sight window. You don't have an issue since you have a YHM flip up BUIS, so I would think it would be a waste of money for you.

thanks for the info SS1

now lets say in the future, I wanted to add a 3x or 4x scope to line up with the eotech.. would i need it then, or just mount on top rail as well?

The magnifier can be mounted directly behind it, but in that case I do like LT's set up as they can be mounted and removed as a unit. I also hear that the flip to the side mount is highly recommended if you go this route.

Eotech makes a flip to the side mount:

BTW, great deals at optics planet.

So.... I looked at the scopes with the FTS mount.. very cool..

I searched the net and found them to be consistently priced at $499 for 3X and $799 for 4x give or take a few dollars...

I also saw the replica ones on ebay for around $100.00 are the optics on the OEM that far superior than the replicas.. has anyone used one of these CHEAP ones? any feedback?

is there any place to get this product used?

anybody have one I can check out?

I am putting it on my Santa List.. :D

ok you want informative.....geeeessss

the knockoffs are usually of chinese origin.
OEM products are reverse engineered and produced to the lowest possible standards.
Eotech aimpoint so-on and so forth are designed and tested to mil-spec thus producing a sturdy tested product.
The knockoffs are usually made with magnifying glass glued into the body of the mag. with a low quality hobby type glue.
This results in poor reliability as far as the objective and mag lense are concerned. The second big issue is poor glass quality along the edges of the mag body resulting in reduced eye relief and blurry image reproduction.
This becomes an issue because the entire reason to use an EOTech is to have a reasonable eye relief even when using a magnifyer. Not to mention the loss of clarity of the image while under magnification. At a 3 or 4 mag setting any loss of quality speaks directly to the poor poor quality of the glass.
So this being said, at 100 dollars or less will it work. Most likely yes but will it last.....from my experiance its a resounding no. There is also the issue of poor QC on the bodies which can result in a seriosly poor fit to the mount which can cause a myriad of problems.
To add insult to injury its a direct ripoff of a companies patent which I believe is a big no-no. I understand that alot of OEM products are overpriced but I dont believe in stealing business from a hand built company creating jobs in the US to a sweat shop in China.
I have used the Ebay optics and Mags and found some useable but its hit and miss at best.

+1 with what Chris said. I've seen what cheap optics will do to ruin a day at the range or during a training class. A lot of these optics are actually for airsoft guns and do not belong on a real firearm.
