so it's almost xmas and my son is asking for a BB gun. he's young, 9, but he fired one at a boy scout event and hasn't stopped asking for one since.

any good suggestions?

also, where can you shoot a BB gun? or better yet, where can't you shoot a BB gun.

thanks.

Get him like a daisy or something. Just make sure its not one of the gay single pumps or he wont even be able to kill birds in the back yard. You gotta get one of the ones that you can pump like 20 times for that one shot rodent kill.

:)

Also, when I was little, I had a blast with the scope that came on mine shooting bottle caps off blades of grass.

I think I had one of those at one time. Just don't get one of the barrel break ones that you bend in half to pump a spring.

Go with an airsoft. There are plenty of cool ones out there...rifles, pistols, shotguns, ar's...they've come a long way.

Just a quick note: Those airsoft guns look SOOO real, especially from a child's perspective! Just make sure he knows the difference... that one hurts and one can take a life. My nephew (11) and his friends play with the airsoft ones, so I'm trying to make sure they know the difference to avoid any accidents... ;)

Absolutely...a gun is a gun and all should be treated the same way.

The red ryder is so outdated though. It's kind of lame now. That's why I recommended a crossman or daisy or whatever they're called.

Also, make him wear glasses! You can tell him about me. I caught a BB with my eye once when I was little. I was being stupid, shooting it into the ground repeatedly. Eventually one ricocheted off of another BB in the ground and came back, and somehow I was able to catch it with my eye lid before it did any damage. It was pretty cool but stupid at the same time. Thank god for reaction times!

air soft isn't a bad idea, i'll look into those.

bass pro shop had a few BB guns to choose from. some with scopes. i think i would get one that the both of us could be entertained with.

and yes, safety and gun knowledge is a priority.

thanks!
