What are the thoughts of this weapon? I have owned one Taurus in the past and it was junk. Swore I would never get another. BUT, I have heard good things overall about the quality of the Taurus 1911's. What do ya think? What is Gun Tech selling them for?

I don't recall the price but I personally think they are a little better in fit and finish than Rock Island Armory 1911's but they still aren't close to the next tier levels. I had a guy come in with one fully loaded to the hilt with custom everything but had trouble getting Wilson mags in. Turned out that when they staked the plunger tube to the frame, they didn't do a great job and left a lot of material sticking into the mag well. It worked fine for cheap thin gauge mags, but the good quality mags would bind. I restaked and milled some of the material away but when you start looking into the little things, it still is just a Taurus. The frame and slide fit though was pretty good for the ones I looked at.

1911's are probably the best model, next to their revolvers, that Taurus makes.

if you like, check out what people are saying...

I've watched some of the previous Nutnfancy vids. Some answer good questions, but many I find to be quite empty of any new substance you wouldn't already read everywhere else.

And if he did his range reports from a rest or full test tripod with chronograph I think he could offer a video review that provides all the hard and real world data an interested person could want.

Saw and handled some Taurus 1911's this past weekend.. they seemed to be very well put together... solid guns... maybe one in the distant future..

For me the jury is still out. Any time someone starts making a firearm they haven't made before I give them about five years before I start to trust it.

Taurus has stepped up their quality over the last few years but they are new in the 1911 world. They do a lot of boasting about how their quality surpasses your "name brand" more expensive 1911s and I have to call a big fat BS on that one. Being an owner of dozens of 1911s over the years including some high end 1911s I have to say there is usually a darned good reason your high end 1911s cost what they do.

I've worked in the gun industry for the last three years and we've had to send a few Taurus 1911s back for repair. While working range duty I once saw someone shooting a Taurus PT1911 and watched as pieces started flying off if it. The great thing is that Taurus really doesn't ask too many questions. If you have a problem, send it back to them and they will fix it and get it back to you in good time.

I hear a lot of people talk about whether this place or that place has good customer service. Personally, I'd prefer never to have to deal with customer service because there's nothing wrong with my gun. But that's just me.

But if I have to deal with them, Taurus has good customer service.

So far I think they are decent guns. Don't know if I'll ever own one or not but for now I'll vicariously enjoy them through those who do with to try them out.

I concur,
I do however think this particular 1911 fills a niche segment that has been wanting for quite some time.
As most know, 1911's can vary wildly in price. A decent GI model can range from 500 to well over a 1000 depending on manufacturer.
The Tuarus seems to bring alot to the table in terms of bang for your buck.
I too have seen alot of taurus semi-autos have issues but in the same token I have sent back Sig's and HK's as well as having to have my own personal STI sent back to the factory for some frame to slide issues.
I think for an entry level 1911 is a fair choice though granted I havent seen any catastrophic failures yet.

The truth of the matter is alot of gun owners cant pony up 1000 plus to get into a 1911 and the GI models out there just dont have the cool factor for them so at the very least its an alternative.

I have never really heard anything good about the Taurus time frame when it comes to warranty issues. They may have good customer service, but I think they need to knock down the 4-6 month waits I have heard people go through for issues.
