MIAMI, FL – Taurus, one of the world’s leading small arms manufacturers, announced its end-of-year rebate program, offering consumers cash incentives to buy some of its most popular products. Purchase from an authorized dealer any new Taurus 1911 or 24/7 OSS pistol and receive a $75 or $50 rebate during the period of October 20 through December 31, 2008.

“The rebate offer makes Taurus’ quality products even more affordable for consumers to add to their collections or give as a gift this holiday season,” said Bob Morrison, President and CEO of Taurus International.

The company will offer $75 cash back on all 1911 series models (MSRP from $719.00 to $827.00), as well as $50 cash back on all 24/7 OSS series models (MSRP from $623.00 to $686.00). Consumers must submit the rebate form, postmarked no later than January 20, 2009, to be eligible to receive the offer.

Beginning as a small tool manufacturer in Porto Alegre, Brazil, more than sixty years ago, Taurus has become a diversified, international company celebrating resounding success as one of the world’s leading small arms manufacturers. In 1941, the company produced its first revolver, and in 1984 changed the industry forever by offering customers an unqualified lifetime repair policy, posting record growth every year since.

i am proud of my taurus and am still very interested in getting one of their 1911's. I see them as hyundai is to the car world. Rapidly improving but no one wants to buy one because of its history. I'd rather have a taurus 1911 than a kimber at this point. I do not need a gun where owners are so naive as to say that malfunctions = needs more break in.

I have to disagree with you slowbra.. most guns require a break in period and the parts need time to mesh together...most new guns are packed with grease and not oil...that said..the new gun will not rust but grease is not the best for reliabilty. I put 500 rounds through any new gun i get before i would ever consider carrying it

uggghhh....as much as I want to stay out of this.......the malfunctions=needs more break in being naive is a little much.

the malfunction and break in thing is a 1911 thing not a Kimber thing.

You could also take a look in you Colts owners manual and see a thinly discribed blurb about certain guns like certain ammo....this is the almighty pony gun saying that oops our 1911's misfeed alot to.
Kahr is another manufacturer who puts a direct item in the owners manual regarding break-in. Its inherent in the design with the steep angle on the feed ramp.

Every 1911 is different too. I never have any problems with the full sized Kimbers, but the Ultra had feed issues. Chris polished the ramp for me and it's perfect now. Even the Wilson Protector we have has feed issues, but it's with UMC ammo, so I'm sure that's the cause.

yes i did. it's exactly that mentality concerning kimber that gets very old very fast. There are too many issues with a $1000 than there should be. Don't get me wrong, they look AWESOME. In fact, i want an Ultracarry II.

As per the break in period. Come on guys. These are firearms that your life may depend on one day. Needing a 500round break in is ok? As per the manufacturer "warning" about break in periods, its doesn't exist to inform the end user about troubleshooting the gun, its there to cover their ass.

That's what disclaimers are for. It's basically saying...ok you bought our $1000 gun. You should spend at least 500rounds before you can claim our product to be defective.

Concerning bang for the buck as far as 1911's go. Do NOT overlook the entry level models. RIA has had nothing but rave reviews for a fraction of the cost of the big names. They may not look as pretty, but not all my guns are only for show and tell.

I got my Kimber TLE II for $575. Not a single issue with it. Put it next to the Taurus and compare.:itsok:

That kind of deal isn't very common. You got lucky. And yes, i will put the taurus next to the kimber and i will be very happy with it. As for you not having any issues with it, good for you! There are plenty of people with taurus gun w/out complaints or no issues. I'm not the only one on this forum with that experience.

On that note, post pics of that kimber! Since your experience with THAT gun has been positive, would you like to sell it =)? i'm interested if you are haha

Yeah...I got a good deal on it, but there are plenty of good deals out there. I've checked out the Taurus, and IMO it doesn't compare to any Kimber. The fit and feel is just not the same. And if you're judging based on random comments about Kimbers, like I said, I've only had a minor issue with my Kimber Ultra. It's kind of expected with a 3" barrel 1911. Not a single issue with any of our full size Kimbers.

You said it yourself...you're comparing a Hyundai with a Cadillac. Not much of a comparison.

You're also saying there are plenty of Taurus owners on here with no complaints, but we're specifically talking about 1911's here. How many people own a PT 1911?

Considering you can get the Taurus for $500, I don't think it's a bad deal. They're decent guns, and fine for an entry level 1911. I'm just arguing that they're not in the same league as Kimbers. Same way Kimbers aren't in the same league as Wilsons. Me...I'd put my money towards another Kimber before getting the Taurus.

I'm sorry I can't roll big time like you Kimber guys. I wish I had deep pockets like that. LOL!!! I still wouldn't buy a Taurus semi-automatic, that is my preference. The revolvers made by Taurus are pretty nice though. I have been looking at the judge for a while now, when it comes to small framed revolvers though, I think I would stick with Smith & Wesson.
