Can I convert a 10/22 action to a pistol without having to register it as an SBR or any other NFA firearm?
Tacsol makes some barrels for the charger and im thinking about just building an action but for 330 if there is paperwork involved ill just buy a charger pistol

the reciever is already registered as a rifle therefor i do not believe it can ever be a pistol

You could probably get one of those Charger pistols and go from there. Looks like the same receiver as a 10/22, only it comes with a 10" barrel. I guess that's a long barrel pistol since it doesn't have a stock, even though it's the same shit.

Adam is right. Even if you have a rifle receiver that was never made into a rifle such as a stripped lower for an AR, it can not be made into a pistol. It actually has to be recorded as a pistol leaving the manufacturer.

Yeah...so wouldn't the work around be using the Charger receiver?

Chris...are you just trying to build a Charger type pistol from a 10/22 receiver? Why not just pickup a Charger if that's the case? Cheap bastard! :p

i was going to buy a charger today,
I have a 10/22 reciever thats not currently in use and will most likely buy a Tacsol barrel and a little kit for it. Hence why I dont really want to buy a charger.
I gettign tired of buying new guns to throw out 90% of the parts.

But what can you do.
im looking for one out there right now

To answer the original question I believe the entire length of the rifle needs to be 26" with the barrel of course 16 of those inches (shotguns 18" barrel lenght) and Spikes is right once its registered as a pistol I don't believe you can do the rifle thing or vice versa unless there is a special form BATF has that I have not seen. Is it really worth all that $$$ and wait.

I'm pretty sure you can SBR a pistol but not the other way around.
