Is there still a nationwide run on ammo? Or has the panic subsided?

Cris

It's still going. I think it only slowed down because of the backorders.

It's pretty bad! It's my understanding that 380 is damn near all gone... I heard that from Keith up at Pompano Pawn. He's having a hard time getting his hands on anything; guns, ammo. He's been back ordered on a couple of guns for a while now to.

What's screwed up is that the materials (cases, primer, powder, bullets, etc) are coming down in price, yet ammo is running scarce. If there ever was a time to justify reloading, it is now.

:+1:Damn right! Now only if I knew how the hell to reload and had a place to do it I'll be set.

Slowbra had a new place he was buying reloads from. I won't do them myself. I don't have the patience.

Seems to me everywhere I go here in CA ammo is damn scarce. It's a shame that the people that actually use ammo a few times a month at the range or at the ranch don't even have access to it.

Ah yes! Democracy I believe they call it.

Last time I checked, I called it stupidity. LOL!!!

It is better to have democracy for sure though. It's a gamble though, sometimes you lose and other times you really lose. LOL!!!

So, does anyone know when the "ammo panic" will cease??

So, does anyone know when the "ammo panic" will cease??

It's the perfect storm. You have a government that has the greatest potential in quite some time to drasticaly curtail civilian sales with both the guns that use the ammo and banter about tagged ammo that will eliminate surplus sales. Then you have a mad rush from every level of gun owner to stockpile. So demand is at an all time high, you have manufacturers getting top dollar for every cartridge they make and surplus importers making an absolute killing. However, the barrier for manufacturers to make more is the:

supply of components/material is limited
the cost of additional commercial presses and space
risk that it will get shut down before they make their investment back

While surplus importers are probably finding a bidding war for the known supplies. If we ever lift the ban on Chinese ammo, I'm sure we are going to see prices fall, but it's doubtful these policy makers will ever do that. At least no one can complain that there's lead in Chinese ammo....

hardly worth mentioning but thought i would put it out there... I was at the walmart on flamingo and griffen and they actually had some .40..had 8 boxes of blazer brass for 12.00 per 50... i grabbed 4 and left 4...didnt want to be the douche to buy up all the stock ( ill be the douche for other reasons) but unless they were grabbed up in the past 3 hrs or so..there should be 200 rounds of .40 available

There's ammo in my area. You can't always get the best price on it, but it's there if you need it, and when the places like walmart get it you snatch it up in bulk.

Thanks. This is crazy. I have my duty ammo (dept issue) and a small box of Remington Golden Sabers that I was lucky enough to buy from Guntech last week. I don't see the "madness" ending anytime soon.

I was just in Miami today and stopped by Stone Hart for .45acp. Adolfo said they always have it in stock and their prices arent bad for what it is. I paid $208.00 including tax on 500rds. Not sure where you are but if you need ammo, its not the cheapest but its not bad and it looks real good. I have not fired any yet but I have heard its pretty decent stuff from a performance stand point.

Phone number is 305-255-4844, call before you go.

My Walmart had a bunch of .223 and .40 last week. This week they finally got .22LR back in (Federal Lightning).

They're making a push to get 9mm and more .22LR back in at my store.

The AR frenzy is starting to see the end of the tunnel as daily production is finally outpacing new orders each day.

Ammo will still be fucked as long as people are hoarding components.

Dan, I've put probably 400 rounds through my 9's, 40 and 45, with no problems. I did have one FTE on my wifes 9, but it's a brand new gun, and not broken yet, so I don't want to blame the ammo for.. other than that, pretty accurate at the distances I shoot. And Pretty clean shooting as well.

good luck with yours :D

Buddy of mine went to the NRA Convention this past weekend. He said he talked to a Hornady rep who told him it will start getting better within the next month or so.

He said it was because the ammo makers will be etching all the ammo we will be buying in the future with serial numbers.

I know that this was going through Congress, but I thought it was a no-go.

doug5336

It is not improving any time soon. I was talking to the rangemaster at work, and he told me that our department is having a difficult time buying ammo, for annual qualifications! This is ridiculous.

This was a national bill, and unless they snuck it under another bill this did not even come up for a vote yet. If it did, reloaders would be out of business as part of the bill makes it illegal to reuse casings or manufacture ammo for sale that does not have serial numbers.

That also would impact sport shooters who would no longer be allowed to handload custom rounds.

I think this is the biggest part of the problem. With the population we have down here, 6 boxes won't last the rest of the day. You just know some azzhat will buy all 6 boxes.

I was down at bass pro a few weeks ago, and they looked like they were rationing the .40 and 9mm. With the shortage as it is, you could buy 10 boxes of 100rd range ammo, turn around and craigslist it for twice, or three times what you paid!

Funny part is I was in Bass Pro last week and they had a pallet of .223 ammo. They actually had it "on sale". It was Remington UMC and they were getting like $9X.00 per 200

Matt works at the Oldsmar Walmart in Tampa.

Hopefully they get some 45 in there soon because I stopped at 3 Wal-Marts over the weekend and now their Rem UMC 223 is being sold in 40-packs for 27$ instead of the old 20-packs for 10$. I can't believe Wal-Mart is charging over 50 cents/round now. =(

anthony20031
06-13-2009, 04:43 PM

JaxChris

Then let's get a group buy going, atleast on 45. Between everyone needing it I'm sure we can get new manufacture from Georgia Arms for a pretty decent price (they started getting their own brass lately also).

Right now it's about 40 cents/round for FMJ or JHP in New brass from them. The benefit is no tax and if we order enough we could get a lower price and probably free shipping also. And being that they're in Georgia we would get fast delivery.

As a group, we could probably even get a group discount code as long as we continue to order enough every 3 months to keep the relationship going. If we have a better than market price for the most common rounds out there, I know I would be like AJ (Asian Joe) and ordering ammo constantly so I would never run out again.

This shit is expensive now, we have to find ways as a group to save costs. There is a reloader here in Clearwater that everyone loves, and many ranges carry his ammo, which offers even lower pricing (10% off) to bulk customers that have purchased more than 25k rounds from him. We could probably set up something similar with him as a group (be treated like a company) and surpass the 25k mark quickly.

As a new referred customer he sold me 45GAP at the bulk price, which turned out to be 300$/1000 with tax but is normally 350$/1000 plus tax. His 45ACP normal pricing on reloads is 265/1000 for 230gr FMJ. He doesn't have his own brass though. But I have fired 650 of the 45GAP I got from him and didn't have a single failure. As for how dirty it is, I have no clue because I have nothing to really compare it to other than Federal AE and the Federal ammo required more patches and scrubbing - don't know if that helps for comparison.

I would even volunteer to be a no-fee middleman with him and handle shipping duties for everyone once or twice a week.

We can do this, we just have to make the effort.

GunTech just got some Winchester white box 50 rnd cnt .45 in tonight. They were VERY expensive, as we calculated that it has to sell at $25 per box in order to make a couple bux. They have only 4 100 rnd cnt WWB that I think is selling for $40.....
