Can you confirm that the CTR you received is in-fact commercial? The Sig556 only comes with commercial buffer tube & stock from the factory. Was this a factory assembled Sig556?

Does the stock fit on either weapon? The CTR is very popular with the guys on sig556.com so I'm not sure why you'd have an out of the box issue.

LOL... there's the problem. A2 buffers are not compatible with collapsible stocks. A2 buffers are longer and slimmer. You will need a new commercial buffer tube if you want to replace the A2 buttstock with a CTR collapsible one.

:+1: That's it. Rich has some commercial buffer tubes. Come on by Guntech. You can get one and we can install it for you.

This is the second time within a week or so that those damn buffer tubes came into play. Damn them for not making them all the same size.

I agree, everything should be Mil-Spec. If Billy hadn't already bought a commercial CTR stock, he could've got the Mil-Spec full kit model and threaded that right in correct?

I've got only one AR that uses a commercial tube and that's because it still has the factory 6 pos collapsible stock on it. I've always encouraged everyone to convert to mil-spec if they can and anyone building from the ground up should always go mil-spec. Not only do you have more "cutting edge" stock choices, but mil-spec tubes are typically better because they are required to be forged and never extruded like some commercial tubes. Plus the threads are typically stronger as well because they are formed by pressing rather than cut as some commercial tubes are. The reason commercial tubes were created by mfgs were because there were shortcuts available to make them cheaper, but they would no longer conform to mil-spec requirements. So they made them slightly oversized so they couldn't be mistaken as mil-spec. While there are some decent commercial tubes out there, there are also some really cheap crap ones as well. To get consistently good results, always go mil-spec.

EDITED TO ADD: If all you are making is a weekend range plinker, then there really is no big deal. Most LE AR's are commercial. I've never heard of a department requiring mil-spec other than by default when they only limit themselves to Colts or LMT's.
