Any chance GunTech has the LE discount going on right now?

Bud's just launched the LE discount on the XD 4" Service model in 9mm for 419.31$

LINK (http://www.budspolicesupply.com/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/39)

Warning: their site is currently getting hammered while they push an update for a Sunday/Monday special 48-hour sale that starts @ 12am ET Sunday morning. They are supposed to be dropping their margins 35% on all ammo. Also dropping cash price on all most firearms 10-150$. They already have some of the lowest online prices for pistols.

I haven't seen an LE discount for Springfield yet. I will try to remember to ask Rich next week.

Man I should get one of these. How would it work buying it online?

LE discounts don't usually work online without department letter head and faxing your order.

For regular online gun purchases you place your order, fax over the FFL of the shop you want it shipped to (must be shipped to an FFL'd gun shop), wait for it to arrive at your shop, go in to fill out background & transfer paperwork, wait 3 days (or take immediate delivery with CWP), and bring it home. FFL transfers range between 10-30$ and the background is a set 5$.

You'll pay shipping online obviously, but the lower base price and not paying tax is a huge savings that easily covers the cost of the FFL transfer fee that wouldn't be paid if buying locally (just the 5$ background). Shipping usually runs 15$ for handguns and 25$ for rifles/shotguns. Price savings with many online-only merchants runs about 10-15% compared to a typical retail establishment.

Example: If you want a 600$ pistol at retail you'd pay 7% tax and 5$ background fee = 647$. If you got the same pistol online it would be about 540$ for the pistol, 15$ for shipping, 25$ transfer fee to your local dealer that receives it for you, and 5$ background = 585$. You've saved 62$ in this example.

This example just happens to illustrate a wash between tax and shipping/transfer. On a higher priced weapon the savings would be even greater since shipping/transfer is a static amount and tax is a percentage. On a 1000$ pistol retail would be 1075$ and online would be 945$ = 130$ saved.

There are shops locally that do a high enough volume or get a decent enough reseller price to offer below MSRP and compete with primarily online shops. From what Cris has shown me GunTech competes on a number of fronts - but no shop can be the best at everything, so any consumer is encouraged to shop around for the best deal.

Gun Tech appears to have prices at or less then many online sellers. The only reason I purchased the Mosin online was because Gun Tech didnt have any. Plus by buying locally and dealing with one dealer you will build a relationship with that dealer and you can not put a price tag on the service that comes with that relationship.

Basically, there are a few big distributors out there. Not all of their offerings are exclusive product lines, so there is some competition. Some factories sell direct and not use distributors as well. So when you see some outrageous low pricing, it is generally with a very high volume dealer that has struck up a one-off deal with a factory or distributor. Some dealers have become so big, that they have become distributors themselves, cutting out the middlemen and dealing directly with the factory who normally will not directly sell to an FFL. If the firearms are not specifically marked LE such as the Glocks, HK's, and Beretta's we get, then the cost is the same as civillians. For LE, Rich only charges about $10 over his cost for most firearms.
