Thinking about purchasing a home in a non-gated community right near Ikea. Anyone live there or no of anyone who lives there? Just trying to get an idea of the area, schools etc. thanks

well my father and brother both live in plantation..not that exact area...that area is pretty decent... like any area it has its "intersting" areas but over all pretty good

The area is not to bad. Unless you are going to send your kid to private school, all the schools suck.

i thought that the schools weren't too bad... where are the best public schools out west? don't have kids yet and we may very likely move by the time they are old enough to go but just curious

weston is pretty decent
The schools out that way are a little better. I know there is a school just south of that Ikea that isn't too bad. I don't know the name, but I know a friend that went there.

But isn't Weston pretty expensive to buy? This is kind of a starter home for us so we don't want anything large and expensive. Our budget is pretty low as I am a stickler with money lol. What about Sunrise?

actually weston road and 84..right by markham is considered sunrise... so it is like living in weston with sunrise taxes

yh the homes we have seen are technically in plantation but right next the markham park
I lived in Plantation in the late 70's through the mid 80's. A lot has changed there over the years, but overall it's still pretty nice. The only complaint I have is their garbage/refuse setup as instead of either billing you or incorporating it in your taxes, garbage is billed through the use of special Plantation garbage bags which cost almost $2 a bag. While the pay as you use concept is ok, the price actually works out to be more expensive than other cities. Depending on where out in west Plantation you are, you might be on their garbage bin program which is less of a PITA.
