View Full Version : A third Mosin Nagant made its way home today
Yeap, I officially have a problem. Today I picked up my 1935 Tula Hex receiver Mosin Nagant. This is probably the most collectible of the three I have. I am actually starting to develop a fetish for these rifles. Now I want to get either a Finn or a PU Sniper. This is better then collecting....well anything, because they all fire!!
We seriously need a Mosin Nagant range day.
So, now for a serious question. The finish on the lumber of this rifle is crap. So do I refinish it like I did my M44 and say the hell with the value/collectible nature of this rifle or do I just clean it and leave it?

What you're missing is that it's a complete working firearm for under 100$ that any bozo with a C&R can have delivered right to their own door. I know it's weird, but hey... the surplus ammo is dirt cheap and reminds alot of serious gun nuts of the days when they could get surplus 5.56 ammo for just 10 cents/round only a few years ago.
Those late to the game are excited about the Mosin because it is their first "deal" of a weapon to own and feed.

their that cheap? maybe i'll have to pick one up lol
This rifle was $96.00 shipped to me. They are a cheap and powerful rifle. They make great hunting rifles if you so choose and are pretty accurate given when they were produced. The ammo is dirt cheap and they are simple in design. With the simplicity of design comes unparalleled strength. Like the AK rifles, these can stand up to about anything. They are cheap, strong, powerful plinkers that you can hunt with or protect yourself with. Then from a historical stand point you are buying something made in the WWII era that has seen battle. I like the idea that my rifles belonged to soldiers and were used in a major war. They are not making any more rifles from 1935, eventually the supply will dry up. From that stand point eventually these rifles will be worth something. Unlike every hobby of mine I know if I ever sell these I will at least break even on them, I will not lose money. Go to the range with someone that has one and fire it. It is crude and hurts your shoulder but is really fun. My next quest is a M1 Garand. Happy shooting
From what I saw of that gun Dan, I would refinish it. For it being as cheap as it is, you don't don't lose value for restoring the look. The finish was flaking off, that's a big negative with me.

You can purchase them from AIM Surplus. Just have a gun store (like Guntech) fax over their FFL to them and AIM will mail the gun to them and you go and pick it up there. AIM actually has Guntech's FFL on file.
Welcome Mike, its not hard to get these rifles online. Basically order your gun online choose your local FFL dealer to have the gun shipped to. If the seller has the FFL on file they can send right away or your local FFL will have to send their info to the seller.
Where abouts in South Florida are you?

Welcome aboard Mike...
These Moss' are a dime a dozen, just give Dan a chance to chime in and I'm sure he will be glad to give you some sound advice.

Well it might be just you, havent seen much asshole activity yet. Maybe with time that will change =)
and i cant wait to pick up a mosin. Aside from the fact that i think they look amazing. They must fun as hell to shoot. only problem i have is that i think i might end up like dan buying more then one...
Buying online is very easy. As others have said, pick your FFL and use them for the transfer. I have used Guntech in the past but now have a FFL C&R license so I can have the rifles shipped directly to me. Another place to check is the gun shows. You will pay a little more at a gun show but you will not have to pay the transfer fee and shipping cost, so its about equal.
91/30s are the most common. They are the real long rifles. Next most common is the M44s which are carbine length with a swing out bayonet. From there I would say the M38s then the Finnish rifles.
They are great rifles and fairly accurate for being over 50yrs old. If you need any further assistance, pm me and I will be happy to help.

where are the pictures?
Beer on tap was the best investment I ever made. Its an older Perlick unit but still works great. Inside looks like hell but no one ever sees that. I need to refinish the inside eventually.
where are the pictures?
