I picking my new SPS 700 Tactical in .308 from Guntech on tuesday and i wanted to also get some rings and bases! I know witch are the best ones from what i read (badger..), but i dont have to spent on that more than 50-60bucks....And i also were looking for a scope in the price range of 130-170bucks.....
What do you think its the best think for this kind of money!!!!
This is for the beginning.....as a starter!!!
Thanks

I don't see the need for the Badger Ordnance base yet myself. They are pricey. As far as the rings I will make sure to get a good set. The scope you can get a Nikon Pro Staff for around $150 you will obviously not have much magnification but the glass is really clear. I am also picking up a 700 SPS soon. I have her in the shop waiting for me to take her home, just holding off until I figure out all the goodies I want to get for it. Plus I will be calling in "Class 3 Phil" for a fine tuning on the trigger.

You have a million options to choose from. I would recommend going with a picatinny rail with as heavy duty rings as possible. While there's a boat load of really good proprietary rings and base systems out there, they are mostly for the hunting crowd and since you are getting a tactical looking bolt gun, they won't look right. Secondly, a solid rail is important with quality screws. Personal experience tells me that even tho the cheaper Promag rail seems like a solid piece of metal rail, the screws they provide suck. They are typically not cut to proper length and can break even at proper torque. Use the rail but have the shop use Leupold screws for a few bux more. Your rail height will depend on your objective size of the scope. Your budget will most likely be in the 1" tube size, so once you find your scope, such as the Nikon (I'd rather have the cheapest Nikon over the most expensive BSA for clarity and coating of glass) you can determine the height of the rings you need. I don't like windage adjustable rings as they are a PITA to install correctly and present another element of possible movement to ruin your last zero. Plus, it's not tacticool (lol). I also don't like the vertical split rings, as they complicate some of the fitting to the shooter, but also have some merits that IMHO don't mean much (although they are tacticool). Lastly, for a bolt gun, you should never need to have a quick detachable set of rings, so avoid them. They might be fine on an AR, but nothing QD can ever promise a return to 0 minute angle after reinstallation. I've seen some cheap rings from Burris called their xtreme model that look very solid and is in your price range.

I really don't have any specific scope recommendations other than you can get a whole lot of value with a fixed 10x as opposed to a vari power scope in the same price point.

I like Nikon a lot, because i use it for photography and i have a good number of lenses, that are incredible! So i was looking especially at nikon, to find something ok for the time being.....and maybe in a few months to be able to upgrade if i have the resources....
I like fixed because i know the optics and distortion are better than the ones with zoom, but i was thinking maybe if i find somebody to go hunting with, to be able to use a scope for that! It is necessary to brake in the barrel as far as i read online, what do you guys its the best way? (after every shot for the first 5 shots to clean it)?sorry for my rant....i am really tired right now....17hours of work..
have a great sunday

p.s. maybe ss1 has time to teach a think or two about long range shooting....what do you say???? :-)))
